Indian Fusion wedding guest outfit - can I run something by you?

45 replies

So I’m been invited to a very high end wedding. The dress code is Indian fusion so I’m guessing that allows western outfits with and Indian feel all the way to western style sarees.

I have found a couple of outfits which I think could work but I have some questions. I think colour would be good but the outfit below is bolder than I would normally wear - would it be out of keeping?

Also could it be too pink if the bride wears pink / red.

I can get the top made longer.

Any help / advise very gratefully recurved.

I’m a very happy recipient of your excitement guys you are helping me out no end - thank you.

@ProfessorLayton1 I’m not sure if the family are of a south or northern Hindu origin.

@ProfessorLayton1 and @Moresleepandwine

Thank you for the underskirt advise.

I have been invited to the whole event including Holi celebration 🎉

@womaninthepinkdress - this link is brilliant thank you so much.

Up until now I have not thought of accessorising but it will be my next move.

Have you thought about how many outfits you need ? There will be few dress changes if you are invited to the whole ceremony. It is probably Mehendi ceremony rather than holi ceremony.

ProfessorLayton1 · 27/03/2022 22:25

You could always borrow outfits if you need more than one,

@Chocomelon

If Hindi is not worry about sleeves but would make the goo longer
I love a long goo😂

I’ve been looking at the schedule over the four days which in includes a Holi festival - casual white outfit which is sorted. There is a Mehendi ceremony which is in the evening before the wedding ceremony. I don’t think I’ll be going to this as I’ll have the children.

The day after is the Indian wedding that I’m hoping to use this outfit for. The next day is an English wedding I have a wedding guest outfit for this part but I need to pep it up with a fascinator etc. So I think the only outfit that is harder to find is the one for the Indian wedding itself. Although any thoughts warmly welcomed in idea for a Mehendi outfit to have on the back burner just in case 😀

Really beautiful outfit! I agree with posters who have recommended a dupatta/ scarf to go with it.

Interesting about the Holi festival, that is usually a festival in the calendar and nothing to do with weddings. Wonder if they mean 'maiyan' ceremony which is where you put a tumeric paste on the bride and groom.

That is a lovely outfit but very bridal looking for an Indian wedding.

So I wouldn’t choose a red outfit.

bonfireheart · 28/03/2022 00:04

I think the Holi ceremony is the rang/colour ceremony, we (muslim) always do these at our weddings, hence why a white outfit perfect as the colour really shows up.

Whysolong7 · 28/03/2022 09:22

Thank you for including the red outfit it’s really beautiful. I have found these also @PollyPutTheKettleOnKettleOn sharing here in case they are of interest though I think I like the first outfit I shared best.

Not to give too much detail about the wedding but re the Holi discussion above I think the bride (Hindu) and the groom English atheist want a truest fusion wedding.

At the start there is Holi, Mehendi and Indian ceremony. Then English wedding and reception then a Ladies day at Ascot cream tea lunch where we have been invited to where hats and dresses as per ascot race day - also not entirely the right time of year. It think they have taken some customs they both love and added them to the days we will be there for.

The Invite clearly says Holi and explains to come in white and be prepared to be covered with powered colour.

Am very grateful for the checking of the details as it would be very easy for me to bowl up completely mis- dressed to any of the above 😀

that's a great outfit. you will need a dupatta though otherwise you won't look finished. I would go with something sheer.

Thank you 😊 I will definitely get a dupatta and I was going to ask whether sheet would be ok.

There's no such thing as overdressed at an Indian wedding! More bling the better
