My face looks like an old potato

I saw a photo of my today and I look like a lumpy old potato. Help! My skin is dull, I've got jowls, marionette lines, dark circles and generally look haggard Sad I'm 36, overweight, patent of young children, stressful job. My eyebrows are non existent but am scared microblading (previous shitty demi permanent eyeliner) so use a pencil but I find my face gets shiny as the day goes on and my eyebrows smudge which really adds to the 'fucking mess' look that I'm rocking just now. My hair is wavy and never behaves which also isn't helping just now either. What the hell can I do?

@newbiesb is microneedling something you can do on yourself or is this for trained professionals onlyWink

Lots of people do buy home microneedle rollers and find it helpful, but experts say not to because 1) the needles aren't such high quality as at a clinic and 2) dermatologists say the rolling effect creates drag on the skin which can damage it.

I believe microneedling stamps are better thought of but would take a lot of time to do your whole face!

Hello fellow potatoes! I see I have found my people. Had a zoom meeting this morning where all I could focus on was my huge potato face 🥔. I'm now going to go back to the start of the thread and read all the tips!

You may look like a potato OP (doubtful) but you write like a dream.

I use This Works’ Light time clense when I remember (a few times a week) and their In transit skin defence moisturiser - mainly because it has factor 30/40 SPF. My skin definately looks better for it though it is highly unscientific as I’not tried anything else bar oil of olay in the 90s..

thesnaleandthewhail · 24/03/2022 13:30

I have a foreo bear and think it does make a slight difference if used regularly...

Stand with the light in front of you, hold your phone higher than your head, dip your chin slightly and look up at your phone. Sorted!
Seriously, what is causing the spud-u-don't-like? If its skin texture and pores, retinol and vit c serums are good. But for marionette lines and other lines, creams will be a waste of time. At your age they may respond to skin tightening devices, but otherwise its only filler or threads that will lift things back and pull the lines out and botox to smooth.

spud-u-don't-like Grin

@userxx have used tan luxe and clarins tanning drops and both do the job.

Have seen people on here recommend using the ones labelled for body on your face as you get a bigger bottle of the same thing, but I haven't tried that yet so can't say with any certainty that your face wouldn't fall off... Grin

Remember when it was oil of ulay!

Back in the good old days of opal fruits and benylin that had the good shit in it that made your throat feel warm and my face was more peach than potato...

Staring into the distance with misty eyed nostalgia

I think it's a combination of lots of things that's causing the spud-you-don't-like, puffy, uneven, saggy. The marionette lines give me the absolute fear, because I've noticed them starting over the last year and even although I am a smiley, cheerful soul, I feel my face is starting to slide off my face, if that makes sense. The marionette lines make me look sad.

The mention of spud-u-like is also making me feel nostalgic, even although it is in relation to my face

That would maybe be a blessing in disguise, I could remould my face before I put it back on 😂

Do you need serum, moisturiser and spf in the morning?

JinglingHellsBells · 24/03/2022 22:05

For your eyebrows @caramelchaos you need RAPIDBROW.
It's basically a serum in a mascara tube and you apply it 2 x a day. It's the same stuff as Regain for hair loss. Takes about 6 weeks to see results but it does work. I use it and my really fine eyebrows end up quite full (I'm mid 60s so not as young as you!)

Also, look at your diet. A lot of skin issues are down to lack of healthy food. You need to eat food with good fats- almonds, oily fish, avocados, virgin olive oil and lots of fresh fruit and veg.

JinglingHellsBells · 24/03/2022 22:07

also, if you are able to lose some weight, the sagging jowls and lines might disappear as your face will carry less weight to 'fall' into folds, IYSWIM :)

Bobodebo · 24/03/2022 22:31

If you’re exfoliating then make sure you wear SPF daily

I’m naturally sweaty and cannot wear most sunscreen on my face

Then I discovered this fabulous product - Frezyderm. It feels like velvet and I don’t sweat. Not expensive either
