You're not wrong - the price of shoes seems to have gone up faster than petrol lately. I used to buy Birkenstocks for about £45/£50, now they're double that.

Doc martens? You'd have to break them in though - I'm not sure whether they're as annoying to break in as the shoes/boots, but thinking how comfortable the shoes/boots are once you've gone through the process it might be worth it!

Wrinklepicker · 22/03/2022 09:39

I was going to say Birkenstocks

A few years ago (2000s) at work we were all fed up of uncomfortable sandals. Someone found Clark’s mules (with block heel) and it had a plaited open toe leather part. They were so comfy I got black and a tan pair. Everyone was buying them as they were so comfy!

I can walk miles in Birkenstocks and mine have lasted years, still look in great condition.

I bought DM sandals last year. Totally different to the boots, no breaking in at all required! I love them, so comfortable and supportive. Can't remember the style name, but they were the shiny ones with thick straps.

These are amazing, I actually stopped wearing trainers last summer and lived in them

I remember buying a pair of fit flops when they first came out about 13 years ago. They weren't much cheaper than they are now. I think I paid about £45 for some fabric Walkstar flip flop platform style ones. They were the comfiest 'shoes' I've ever owned. I've got a few other pairs since. Last pair I got was a leather t-strap style I wore walking miles and miles around European cities. Think I paid about £60 a few years ago. I've checked the fit flop website and they're all about the same still. Perhaps a bit more than they were 13yrs ago when I got my first ones. But that's inflation for you. They're well worth the price IMO.

Agree with DM sandals. Mine are so comfortable and have lasted me ages
