Stylish but comfortable city break outfits

We're going on a UK city break soon and I would really like to just look good whilst traipsing around the tourist spots all day. The chances are we will be trying to visit some nice restaurants during the day so I really don't want to be in leggings and a jumper. Happy with trainers, as long as they are "cool" trainers and paired with a decent outfit that I'll be comfortable walking in all day.
Would love some suggestions please (I'm mid 30's and prefer more plain clothing rather than colourful/loud)

What sort of thing do you like to wear? And what size/shape are you?

If it was me I would be working with jeans, trainers, and layers. So thinking about things I own that I am enjoying wearing at the moment an outfit might be:

Levi’s 501 ankle grazer jeans
White Stan Smith trainers with a colourful pair of socks
Black and white Breton top from &OtherStories
V neck hot pink cardi from Arket
Black oversized biker jacket from H&M

The cardigan could also be worn over a dress, or buttoned up with a camisole top under it. It could also be stuffed in a tote bag if it was too warm.

I’m 5ft 6, size 10.

Your outfit sounds lovely, Judy. I might plan a city break just so I can wear it!

I like the look of jumpsuits on other people, but feel like I look like I’m wearing pyjamas. How do I get over this?! Size 10, age 46.

Sorry to derail the thread OP.

Some outfits I am liking right now that might inspire some ideas!

  1. White shirt/ grey sweatshirt over it/ Docs/ black 90s inspired handbag/ sunglasses optional Grin
  1. Levi’s tapered jeans/ Breton or similar/ Converse high tops/ large Longchamp tote (Good for a day with more walking?)
  1. Wide leg rib cage Levi’s/ black knitted vest/ oversize blazer/ chunky black loafers. (For a day you know you might be eating somewhere a bit nicer than a cafe or relaxed restaurant?)
  1. Black leggings/ jumper/ cropped puffer/ New Balance (sportier vibe.. maybe for a morning or a day you know you won’t be going into a nice restaurant?)
  1. As above but I’ve got a long cream oversized wool cardi that elevates it a bit.. I swap the jumper for a white t-shirt if I’m going to be warm/ inside.

(Add some black tapered trousers to point 1 above!!! Omg, haha! 😳 Grin )

I have a few pairs of wide leg crop trousers that are comfy and look stylish. I find them more comfy than wearing jeans all day.

So something like this:

www.whistles.com/product/wide-leg-jersey-trouser-34809.html

Or a full length version:

www.sweatybetty.com/shop/bottoms/trousers/move-freely-pique-pants-SB6497_CourtGreen.html?pid=SB6497_CourtGreen&dwvar_SB6497__CourtGreen_color=black&vgid=SB6497_CourtGreen&cgid=pants&tile=1&newpid=SB6497_CourtGreen&oldpid=SB6497_CourtGreen

Probably with trainers or chunky sandals, a tee or fine knit jumper tucked in, and then a biker jacket on the top.

Hi OP, we are away on a city break this weekend and I am packing.

Black tapered leg jeans
White shirt
Green tea blouse
Black and white zebra print hi top converse (the ones I'm finding most comfortable after an ankle injury)
Black jumpsuit
Grey cropped jumper
Leather biker and black scarf
Leather across body bag

Hoping that's all I need as want to pack light.
Have a great time!

I'd do similar as @Judystilldreamsofhorses says but you can get striped tshirts from Sainsburys, I prefer the first:-

You could do the Breton top too.

The oversized Biker from H&M is a good buy.

This is the cardigan she means but depends if pink is your thing:-

www.arket.com/en_gbp/women/knitwear/cardigans.html

I got this from &OtherStories but in a blue and white (so blue more prominent) last year:-

I wouldn't say you necessarily need a cross body bag either. I personally don't like them!

Gonnagetgoing · 23/03/2022 15:16

Any trainers will do as long as they're comfy. If you like Stan Smiths get those, Vejas same. Or just Superga (really comfy)

Gonnagetgoing · 23/03/2022 15:16

I would suggest maybe taking two footwear options - e.g. comfy boots like Chelsea boots and trainers as you're not supposed to wear same footwear 2 days in a row due to feet sweating.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 23/03/2022 20:48

Ha, I wasn’t suggesting the OP recreated that outfit, just thinking of the kind of thing I would wear based on stuff in my wardrobe.
