Hi I'm in my forties and recently applying make up has been a nightmare. I have a bigger nose which is greasy on top and slightly dry on sides. My routine is -
Wash face with mild soap
Apply L'Oréal day cream avoid top of nose
Apply elf primer
Apply fenty foundation using a brush
I sometimes add fenty concealer on nose
Powder - rimmel
Bronzer- L'Oréal
Morphe setting spray.

Within minutes the make up wil clot and patch on my nose , my unmade face is quite pale but my nose is a bit red so it's quite obvious. Any tips???

How often do you scrub? Do that a couple of times a week and pay attention to your nose. I use a colour correcting primer over my nose where it is red.

Are you using a toner?

I don’t use a powder anymore as whoever I do, it sits in fine lines and makes me look like I’ve got milk spots that my sone had when he was born.

I never scrub so will try that. Can you recommend a brand? Colour correct primer sounds like a good idea. Yes I get exactly the same dots on my nose and eyelids! Thanks for replying

Primer, foundation, concealer, powder, bronzer, spray?!

Seriously?

Only because you’ve asked - it might be better to focus more on your actual skin, rather than on covering it up? (I know that sounds like a 1970s mother.)

Don’t use a physical scrub - they can be quite irritating, if not damaging.

Find an enzyme cleanser. I also have/had combination skin and the Dr Barbara Sturm cleanser has been a revelation. It’s good value because it lasts for ages, but there are probably cheaper versions available.

Then try the Paula’s Choice BHA Liquid Exfoliant.

Then a really gentle oil. (It’s worth experimenting to see what suits you.)

A mask a couple of times a week will help to regulate oiliness too.

(I wouldn’t fret too much - the menopause will dry out your skin quite beautifully.)

I use a gentle one from Clarins. Any gentle one would do. Just don’t got for anything harsh.

I use nip & Fab, I heard a useful tip from a,make-up artist, mentally call it exfoliator rather than a scrub because you need to be gentle and call it a scrub tends to make you scrub which is too harsh.

I think you need an exfoliator. Look at different moisturisers as I find some make my makeup behave like yours.
