Help! What colour should I dye this dress?
It's a lovely shape (Nobody's child sale purchase) but colour makes me look washed out (I'm a pale skinned blonde)

Dylon don't have much choice but Rit have more

I'd go with fuchsia or more practically, navy.

LittleBirdBlu · 19/03/2022 16:17

Red, Dark Green, black or navy would be my choices. It's a lovely style, perfect for the summer Smile

midsomermurderess · 19/03/2022 16:18

Teal, perhaps.

FleeceNavidadFromTheSheep · 19/03/2022 16:24

Rust.
And change the buttons.

Every colour of the rainbow being suggested here!
Die it a colour that suits you surely?

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 19/03/2022 16:28

*Dye

Check the stitching- I once dyed a white cotton skirt dark blue. The thread used to stitch the hems etc must have been polyester because it stayed white. It looked crap.

yes, this is common. It is rare to find dyable thread. So re-dying a navy T shirt back to decent navy afterit fades works really well. Dying cream to dark doesn't if the stitching is cream.

So on that basis i would go for a darker shade of what it is, so a dark cream/beige or brown, so the sticthing isn't too obvious

MrWhippyBloon · 19/03/2022 16:35

Teal

Thewindwhispers · 19/03/2022 16:38

Whatever suits you! If it was mine I’d do navy, black, or mint green.

Chocolateteabag · 19/03/2022 16:46

Thanks all! - DSIS has just said "dye it whatever colour you like" when I asked her.

I have been looking at the Toast dresses and pondering an egg yolk yellow, burnt orange or even a Khaki

The thread not taking the dye is a good point - so a dark blue probably wouldn't look right.

DH has now just thrown in a "why did you buy it if you dodn't like the colour?" Like really? Because that's what you do! Buy the wrong size and either aim to slim into it or adjust it to fit, buy the wrong colour with a vague idea to dye it Grin

Dylon has a lovely olive green machine dye. Should suit your colouring & wont matter if threads stay white with those buttons. Pretend it's a design feature Wink

Bugger yes, will have to change the buttons too...

I think it would look lovely yellow and should be slightly more forgiving if the stitching thing is an issue - I couldn’t make out from the photo very well but it looks fairly well hidden.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 19/03/2022 16:50

What’s it made of? Also, you need to factor the base colour in. So it might not go teal, but more of a browny green.

waltzingparrot · 19/03/2022 16:59

This colour

It's 100% cotton (maybe not the thread) and a very pale pink

Just been down a shibori rabbit hole - but I would rather go Toast than Tie dye!

I love the contrast of the light stitching with a dark colour. It has to be a bold change though, making it look deliberate. I dyed a white dress a denim blue and the stitches stood out really well.

SheWoreYellow · 19/03/2022 17:32

Periwinkle. Might look ok with pale stitching and buttons too, a bit denim-y.

yes I can see different colour stiching looking very effective against a denim look
