Is there such a thing as a 'nice' changing bag?

I'm a FTM expecting twins and have no idea what to do about a changing bag. Need some tips from experienced mums!

I would like a nice quality bag that doesn't scream 'changing bag' but not sure such a thing exists! It has to be big enough for twins, neutral enough so DP can use it and practical, but also something hard wearing that I'll be happy lugging about for the next couple of years.

My normal bag style is I tend to buy a quality expensive handbag and use it for years, my current is an oak mulberry bayswater, sometimes an amberley or Alexander McQueen etc.

Is there such a thing or am I being naive that you can still have a smart looking bag with twins? Am I better just getting an actual changing bag for the practical design and sections etc, or would a large bag work if I use separate storage bags or the like inside?

I prefer cross body type strap but would consider backpack style at a push.

So far I like a couple of the Elvis and Kresse bags that look hard wearing and Suit DP. Not sure what size I would need, don't want to go too big!

Are there any other suggestions anyone has about what other actual changing bags or other bags which might fit the criteria?

Definitely Jem and Bea-gorgeous styles!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 19/03/2022 21:17

I had a few, my Stork Sac was closest to a nice normal bag but was a quite heavy. I then just used a nice normal bag.

LyndaLaHughes · 19/03/2022 21:22

I had the Storksak Elizabeth and it was gorgeous.

m00rfarm · 19/03/2022 21:22

Check out the zellie bags. They’re fabulous.

LadyMacduff · 19/03/2022 21:28

Another vote for no changing bag. Just buy a bag you like that is on the large side

I was never one of those mums that went out laden with everything but the kitchen sink. I had a couple of nappies and a half pack of wipes, couple of nappy sacks, a vest and fleecy sleepsuit in case of nappy leakage, spare bib, a couple of small toys, a full bottle... and that was about it. I don't really know what else I would have needed.

I have a 3 bags from kerikit.com/ Really good quality, great as changing bags but also really good as handbags in their own right.

Fiveletters · 19/03/2022 21:41

I had a storksak - I really rated it and was a bit disappointed to give it up after my two were too old!

TwinkleToesStrikesAgain · 19/03/2022 21:43

We had a crumpler bag - something DH was happy to carry into the toilets with him....

Brett239 · 19/03/2022 21:43

I loved my Lululemon & Sweaty Betty bags.

Littleguggi · 19/03/2022 21:47

I spent a fortune on mine, a Burberry one, but literally used it everyday for the past 6 years so it's probably cost me £100 per year 😂

ThatDreamSheep · 19/03/2022 21:49

I love Tiba and Marl backpacks

Emily29 · 19/03/2022 21:49

Tiba & Marl or Jem & Bea
Although I only used a changing bag for around 6 months then just swapped to a pack pack for my little boy and my own handbag again.

Really it depends on your lifestyle. I lived rurally so always had my car with me where I kept spares then I had a bag I could chuck under the pram/pushchair. I looked everywhere for a nice changing bag. Couldn’t find one so just used the one that came with my pram along with a nice small handbag for me. Now I’m out of the pram phase I have a nice leather bucket bag.

I have a storksak backpack, it’s lovely doesn’t look like a changing bag at all but very practical e.g. clips for putting in buggy, changing mat etc. Not really one DP hold use though! Worth checking out their other bags and Jem and Bea - I really liked these but they were more expensive.

ShadowPuppets · 19/03/2022 21:54

I agree with others, the designed changing bags made me feel bleh - so twee.

I bought myself a fjallraven, had wanted one a while really and baby gave me the excuse! Plenty of room for a separate rollable changing mat, a change of clothes, a pack of wipes and a couple of nappies. Still using it for 18mo DD and reckon it’ll have plenty of space for when DS turns up next month. So not twins but two in nappies at least 🙈

AnnaSW1 · 19/03/2022 21:58

I love Pacapod backpacks. I love the changing pods too

Algebraicyourleg · 19/03/2022 22:54

I have twins and a singleton (20months between them). I first had a back pack style but absolutely hated it, it just wasn’t me.

I know use an old Michael Kors handbag that a pen leaked in as I don’t mind it getting bashed and chucked around.

I have some nappy pouch’s/big pencil cases with nappies and spare clothes (1bag of spare per child - that way if I just have to take 1 somewhere -like the doctors- I just take their spare clothes bag). I bought them from another twin mum and honestly they have saved so much stress and they are easy to find in my bag, and can be given to whoever is looking after them just in case!

Is there such a thing as a 'nice' changing bag?

Edit - they aren’t the names of my children, just the pictures from her Facebook/website!

BobbyGentry · 19/03/2022 23:02

I had something similar to the link, Cath Kidston Baby Changing bag www.cathkidston.com/en-gb/kids-and-baby/baby-0-24-months/baby-changing-bags/ I liked it because it was wipe-down-able, I liked the bottle holder & changing mat too so can recommend.

Pixilicious · 19/03/2022 23:04

I would re down for something that clips to the pram so you’re not carrying it nor using the oram basket

mynameisigglepiggle · 19/03/2022 23:05

Another vote for pacapod here
Mine still looks like new and "little one" is 4!

I had a leather storsak bugaboo bag and I loved it. I didn't want anything mumsy.

Thewindwhispers · 19/03/2022 23:07

Honestly changing bags are so useless, suxh a waste of money, what you need is a backpack so you can have both hands free for the baby.

I bought a pretty change bag from John Lewis but it was barely used, after a while I used a small backpack instead.

Parker231 · 19/03/2022 23:09

Don’t buy one with ‘baby’ in the title - waste of money. Just buy a rucksack from Amazon. I had DT’s and just used the rucksack whenever we left the house.

toddlermom1 · 19/03/2022 23:16

I've had a few but recently bought the Gucci changing bag just so i dont miss my hand bag too much! Love it x
