Chin hairs - Electrolysis or waxing or ?

Waterfallgirl · 19/03/2022 09:23

Please can anyone advise. I’ve always used a beautician to remove my hairs by electrolysis - she has now left the salon ( think she is Sahm now) and the salon are recommending waxing instead as no one else is trained to do electrolysis.
I have my eyebrows waxed but it always makes my skin red for a while but the chin is a much larger area and I’m wondering if it’s the best way?
Anyone got any views on this? Or any other suggested£ alternatives - cannot keep up with the plucking !
Thanks

Get 3 laser treatments to then a top up once a year

Much less painful than electrolysis and more effective

Hair removal 'wand'. It's actually a men's nose hair trimmer that they made in pink. Quick sweep over the face Sunday night, done. Zero pain. Low price.

Why not just find another salon?

EatSleepReplete · 19/03/2022 09:55

Electrolysis is the only thing that's permanent though isn't it? I'm getting electrolysis at the moment, only had 4 or 5 sessions & already a big difference, very few hairs are coming back by the next week. Personally if my lady stopped doing it I'd find somewhere else that does. I'm so done with having to constantly deal with it. TBH the pain isn't that bad... just breathe slowly & deeply & remember why you're there.

There has literally just been a thread in this yesterday. If you scroll down you'll find all the answers you need.

That being said, I have a fairly hairy chin and upper lip. Depending on how much time I have I will either wax or use a ladies face razor like these amzn.to/3inBVSt

Shaving it off with one of those also helps to exfoliate your skin and takes the dead skin off too. I love it. And no the hair doesn't grow back thicker or darker. I've been doing it for years

BELLAARA · 19/03/2022 10:03

Just to add some balance: I've tried the derma blade/lady face razor device, on swears that hair doesn't grow back coarser or darker.

For me, it absolutely did, and continues to, make mine appear coarser and darker (I used on top lip and wouldn't dream of using anywhere else, now) I have very dark hair and pale skin-although that's less relevant than my hair type, I suppose.

gunnersgold · 19/03/2022 12:03

I just pluck mine as they come through !

Hohofortherobbers · 19/03/2022 12:08

Have you tried one of those cheap springy epilators you get on amazon for about 50p? I pluck and use the spring on my chin. Perhaps we ought to be trying to embrace the chin bristles though? Trailblaze them back into fashion, like big eyebrows have been? Grin

3peassuit · 19/03/2022 12:16

The springy things are great.

Imtoooldforallthis · 19/03/2022 12:19

Anyone struggle with ingrowing hairs and any adive on haw to stop this.

The Philips light treatment is fabulous. It’s an expensive initial outlay - mine was about £250 in an Amazon Black Friday deal. But, I used it monthly for about 6 months, and now a year later I still have very little hair. I do occasional spot treatments if I spot some hair. I did my arms, face and legs. Can’t recommend it highly enough, if you have dark hair and light skin.

Sportsnight · 19/03/2022 12:22

Lumea - I couldn’t remember the name of it for a minute.

Rina66 · 19/03/2022 12:22

I use the Phillips Lumea, it's so good and you can use it everywhere with the different attachments. Also, you don't need the hair to be visible for it to work, so you can wax, shave etc and then use.

I had electrolysis on my eyebrows years ago, the hairs grew back and also my skin was marked by it - IPL does not damage the skin.

Louloubelles · 19/03/2022 12:24

I didn’t know electrolysis was still a thing! How about a home laser? Philips lumea is brilliant - one of the best things I’ve ever bought. Then you can use it in other areas too. It’s quick and painless.

Louloubelles · 19/03/2022 12:25

Cross post with all the lumea fans!

Juno22 · 19/03/2022 12:30

Does the Lumea work with pale (freckly) skin and fair hair? I'd like to buy one but worried it won't work on my colouring.

Rina66 · 19/03/2022 13:01

I'm dark haired @Juno22 - it says on the website that it doesn't work on very fair or white hair or very dark skin....

Chin hairs - Electrolysis or waxing or ?
Juno22 · 19/03/2022 13:03

Thanks Rina66. Just confirmed what I thought. What a shame.

Weatherwax · 19/03/2022 13:14

Laser hair removal for sure, but professional at a salon. Therapue salins have a buy lip, get chin for 1p deal until March 31st. I had 6 sessions and have never needed to do anything else since, for years. It's amazing!
