Sudden dry patches around eyes

I have normal to oily skin, fairly regular skin care routine, not particularly sensitive skin either.
I’ve suddenly started getting itchy patches around my eyes and between my eyebrows, and then it gets really flaky, almost like eczema… Except I’ve never had eczema before!
Has anyone else ever had this? It’s driving me mad, my eyes are so sore. It’s on my eyelids and just under my lower lid too at the moment.
The only things I can think of that might be contributing is a new pineapple face serum I bought about 3 weeks ago, or the fact that I wore a fair bit of eye makeup last week.
I’ve stopped using the serum now, but even when I was using it, it wasn’t directly on my eyelids, and the eye make up wouldn’t make sense when the dry patches started between my eyebrows!
I can’t go mad with moisturiser because of where it is, I’ve been using 8 hour cream but wonder if there’s something better than that for it.

Bioderma do a cream for this, I've forgotten the name, I accidentally bought it thinking it was for dry skin but it's actually for oily skin with flaking near w eyebrows etc. I'm sure there's a name for it (the skin condition) but I can't remember. I'll have a Google for the cream and link it for you if I find it.

I used to get this years ago then it miraculously disappeared . The pharmacist at Boots recommended 'simple eye ointment', which wasn't designed for what I had but would help keep the area moist. It really worked. Not sure if they still do it as I haven't needed it since.

To be clear, this isn't by the company Simple, it's just a simple eye ointment - you'd need to ask at the pharmacy counter .

I had this from using an old eyeshadow could it be that?

Following! I'm having exactly the same issue at the moment. I do have eczema but never really had it on my face without irritation and never on my eyes at all. Seeing a dermatologist for a flare up I've been having at the moment but nothing has worked yet.

@imnottoofussed that did cross my mind actually. I can say with 100% certainty that most of my make up was bought pre pandemic. But it all started between my eyebrows, though a little higher, I have a wrinkle that suddenly got really itchy and red and then suddenly it was dry and flaky! That’s what made me think it wasn’t make up as I’d not used any there. The worst patch now is underneath one of my eyes, it’s like just below where lower eyeliner would be, it looks like a chemical burn!

I get facials monthly and have spoken to the facial lady I use and she’s reccomended la Roche posay cicaplast so I’ll try to pick some of that up today.

My eyes do this when I try using anything other than Vaseline (glam!) or Nivea Aloe after sun (which I use for my whole face).
I bought some pretty expensive Elemis eye serum and it totally messed up my eyes for weeks. I seem to be getting more sensitive the older I get.
I was actually diagnosed with blepharitis and then stress induced excema, might be worth looking into these to see if pics/symptoms match. I’m on top of it now but do have to be super careful of what goes near my eyes. Actually bit anxious over wearing eye makeup and haven’t done so for a few months now.

I had something similar. Started between my eyebrows and then spread around my lower forehead and under my eyes. Super dry skin, really flakey, and the area looked a bit red. Nothing seemed to keep the dry skin at bay for more than a few hours. Turned out it was seborrheic dermatitis - I used Sebclear cream from Amazon and it sorted it out in a couple of weeks.

Anyfeckinusername · 17/03/2022 09:53

You need La Roche Posay!! This happened to me before but around my mouth and corners. The pharmacist recommended LRP Lipikar Baume AP saying it looked like a reaction to something - it worked and calmed my sore skin down. I use lots in their range now and it’s all really very good.

I've had this for a few years now and it's always worse in winter. GP can't find anything wrong. I've tried every cream going and the only things that don't make it worse are vaseline, lansinoh (BF nipple ointment), diprobase ointment, and the best one I've found yet is aquaphor this one. The only upside is nothing expensive works! Just the most basic emollient/barrier ointments - which makes me think it's just dryness making them sore and itchy.

imnottoofussed · 17/03/2022 10:19

I’ve also had it from using garnier micellar the pink bottle one. I had been using it for ages and then suddenly dry under eyes. I had to stop using that.

Hopefully you get fixed soon

It looks a LOT like seborrhic dermatitis actually! I wonder if a combo of this new serum I’ve been using and make up aggravating my eye has bought it on. My skin can usually take a LOT so I’m surprised!

How weird, I’ve just started suffering from this. Had dry red patches between eyebrows, on eyelids, on side of face and corners of mouth a month or so ago. Put it down to stress and poor diet- getting ready to move house. I’ve been using minimal facial products- just a face cream so nothing new. Felt it coming on again yesterday. This morning my eyelid is so sore and a bit swollen, I look like I’ve been punched. Same pattern of red patches. I’ve got a bit of a cold so I wander if this is what my face does now when I’m feeling a bit under the weather. I look hideous. I’ll research seborrhic dermatitis now.

dizzyupthegirl86 · 17/03/2022 12:27

@ThorFull weirdly…. I’ve had it on the corner of my mouth as well. It’s a tiny patch and I occasionally get spots there so it didn’t seem as unusual to me as the rest!! I’m not stressed but I had an unusually busy week last week and that’s when it first started.
