I would always advocate for going for a few consultations with different surgeons. They all have different opinions and skill sets. Obviously there’s a cost to doing this, but you are literally putting your life in their hands and will have to live with the results for the rest of your life. Doing your due diligence is imperative.
The first one I went to made me feel like a lost cause - like I was trying to polish a turd and my results were going to be unpredictable, etc. When she showed me previous photos of her work she only showed me photos of much older women in their 60’s (I’m 36), it was really disheartening, but I just accepted this must be the consultation style in plastics - almost like they’re shit-testing to see if you really want it done. I pondered on it, booked a second consultation with her, went back for it, she was a bit more positive but still kinda made me feel weird about everything.
I booked another consultation with a different surgeon (actually one of her colleagues in their NHS breast surgery work) and it was a totally different experience. I didn’t feel rushed, he was very detailed in the history he took, looked at everything, got me to bend into all different positions and pulled at the skin so he could see the laxity and what he’d got to play with, etc. He was far more positive - and gave me totally different advice about my breasts than I’d been given by the woman before. His approach was a lot more conservative - where she’d said I needed a 360 body lift - he examined me and said I had absolutely no skin laxity in my lower back, so it wouldn’t be necessary, and recommended an extended tummy tuck. She’d recommend a breast lift, followed by a subsequent procedure for insertion of implants. He said that I would never be a good candidate for an implant due to my skin laxity, so proposes to do an breast lift with autoaugmentation (use of my own fat and excess tissue to build the volume in the breast) and would also want me to consider having the Galaflex internal bra mesh to secure the lift and results for a longer period of time (as breasts do sag again). So you can see you’ll get lots of different opinions and I think it’s only through having several consultations that you can start to see what ideas are being proposed over and over and which ones were proposed by one surgeon and immediately dismissed by a second surgeon.
I think once you’ve had a couple of consultations, you will start to get a feel for the general opinion on what is needed and what the costs should roughly be. After that you can make a decision on who you have most trust in and who’s results photos you’ve liked best, who has the best revision policy, which hospital you’d prefer, etc.
Also worth looking at BAPRAS (British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons) - lots of information available on the website. Postcode search for surgeons practicing near you, you can then search for their individual practice on Google and approach them for a consultation/quote. Would always advising going direct to the surgeon rather than initially approaching the private hospital too.
