Cosmetic Surgery - Tummy Tuck + Labiaplasty

hello

Just wondering if anyone here has had either / both these procedures? I would love to hear your experiences, and also any recommendations of trustworthy surgeons.
I've thought about these procedures for a long time, I'm getting labiaplasty due to discomfort and a tummy tuck cause I have severe stretchmarks from pregnancy. Thanks :)

OP, please don’t get a £900 tummy tuck in Poland. They must have got the bin man to perform the surgery for £900. Think how many professionals you need in an operating theatre to do a safe surgery - the surgeon, the anaesthetist, an ODP, a theatre nurse and support worker - £900 isn’t even enough to pay their wage for the procedure, never mind the cost of clean equipment, dressings, use of the hospital and your recovery room, ward nursing, food, etc.

There are some FB groups for UK plastic surgery research where people will have pictures and personal reviews of their surgeons. One of them is run by Karen Perrett who goes by the name “surgeonsourceress” on Instagram - she dedicates her time to demystifying plastic surgery, what you should be asking, what the red flags are, etc. The group is called “Honest Tummy Tuck & Cosmetic Surgery Support Group UK”.

Remember that the NHS won't pick up the pieces (except for emergency care) so I wouldn't do it unless you've got a decent chunk of money in the bank for follow-up here. As an NHS GP I see a lot of patients whose plastic surgery abroad has gone wrong.

Good point, and a competent UK based plastic surgeon will make very clear to you the extent of the aftercare that they offer, their policy for clinically indicated revision surgeries, etc.

If a UK surgeon anticipates that you’re likely to have any healing problems they’ll often charge more on the upfront cost to accommodate extra wound checks, dressings and follow up appointments.

Sounds about right if there’s a lot to be done and it’s not just a simple little tummy pooch at the front, if there’s laxity/excess fat circumferentially then it’s a lot more work . Are you having a standard tummy tuck or a 360? Or fleur de lys?

Dan Marsh and Mo Akhavani at the Plastic Surgery Group, both worth looking into. Edmund Fitzgerald O’Connor is another one.

Likely to be long wait lists for these three and would expect prices to be at the higher end, but very well respected surgeons with outstanding results and good track records on revisions/problem solving post op too.

I would always advocate for going for a few consultations with different surgeons. They all have different opinions and skill sets. Obviously there’s a cost to doing this, but you are literally putting your life in their hands and will have to live with the results for the rest of your life. Doing your due diligence is imperative.

The first one I went to made me feel like a lost cause - like I was trying to polish a turd and my results were going to be unpredictable, etc. When she showed me previous photos of her work she only showed me photos of much older women in their 60’s (I’m 36), it was really disheartening, but I just accepted this must be the consultation style in plastics - almost like they’re shit-testing to see if you really want it done. I pondered on it, booked a second consultation with her, went back for it, she was a bit more positive but still kinda made me feel weird about everything.
I booked another consultation with a different surgeon (actually one of her colleagues in their NHS breast surgery work) and it was a totally different experience. I didn’t feel rushed, he was very detailed in the history he took, looked at everything, got me to bend into all different positions and pulled at the skin so he could see the laxity and what he’d got to play with, etc. He was far more positive - and gave me totally different advice about my breasts than I’d been given by the woman before. His approach was a lot more conservative - where she’d said I needed a 360 body lift - he examined me and said I had absolutely no skin laxity in my lower back, so it wouldn’t be necessary, and recommended an extended tummy tuck. She’d recommend a breast lift, followed by a subsequent procedure for insertion of implants. He said that I would never be a good candidate for an implant due to my skin laxity, so proposes to do an breast lift with autoaugmentation (use of my own fat and excess tissue to build the volume in the breast) and would also want me to consider having the Galaflex internal bra mesh to secure the lift and results for a longer period of time (as breasts do sag again). So you can see you’ll get lots of different opinions and I think it’s only through having several consultations that you can start to see what ideas are being proposed over and over and which ones were proposed by one surgeon and immediately dismissed by a second surgeon.

I think once you’ve had a couple of consultations, you will start to get a feel for the general opinion on what is needed and what the costs should roughly be. After that you can make a decision on who you have most trust in and who’s results photos you’ve liked best, who has the best revision policy, which hospital you’d prefer, etc.

Also worth looking at BAPRAS (British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons) - lots of information available on the website. Postcode search for surgeons practicing near you, you can then search for their individual practice on Google and approach them for a consultation/quote. Would always advising going direct to the surgeon rather than initially approaching the private hospital too.

@ZealAndArdour Not to derail the thread but can you give me the name of the breast guy please? I need a revision lift and have been thinking about an internal bra.

He’s Nottingham based, Stephen McCulley.
