Anyone have their hair plaited for going abroad?
If I get them done the night before will they stay in ok for travel the next day?

That really will depend on your hair type, if you are a wriggly sleeper and someone who touches their hair a lot. I've put plaits in DDs hair and it's looked nearly as good as new the next morning, but then I've slept with plaits in and they've been half out by the morning.

I've not bothered for travelling, I usually just wash and straighten my hair so its easy to throw a pony in while travelling. You can get tiny travel sized cans of dry shampoo if you are going long haul.

Yes. I always do but luckily it’s when I’ve gone with friends that plait it for me and it could last the whole short break away or 4 days. I’ve been known to just shampoo my scalp amongst the plaits to freshen it up. My hair bugs me when it’s hot or if I’m camping so I always do this! Have a lovely time. PS Dutch or French stay longer. I can only do straightforward plaits myself.

Agree that it depends on your hair. My eldest dd has long curly hair and if she sleeps over at cousins or mil I do French braids on her hair. They will last all weekend if necessary with a touch up of the little wispy bits. My hair, or younger dd hair, very fine/baby hair type hair. French braids start just unravelling in my head. Luckily I like my hair shorter and dd6 is shorter for the moment too!

But you could just try it? No harm if you have to take them out surely.

I do them on my girls - one stays in beautifully, the other the look a bit of a frizzy mess but still tidier than anything else...
On me as an adult and others I think they look more 'grown up' if they are done kind of loosely and a bit more casual, but I find the loose casual look takes more time to master!!! And that's probably not the kind you were after for travel anyway!!!

I've got thick curly hair so would hopefully stay in well!
Dry shampoo is a good idea

My mum used to get the hairdresser to do this in my hair before our holidays. It stayed really well In thick wavy hair

WandaThePanda · 16/03/2022 09:48

Is this a thing? Never heard of plaiting hair specifically for a holiday! With thick wavy hair you should be fine, OP (DD has this hair type and they stay in all day for her - am very envious!)

As someone with fine and greasy hair dry shampoo is a total gamechanger.
