People always says oh it must be nice be tall you can wear anything. Well it's a bit hard if you have a shape and the waist of a dress is under your boobs.

I have lost it completely since having kids. I was always casual side, as worked companies where it was casual workwear ( ie you could wear coloured jeans, but not denim denim.) Now WFH.

So if you are similar what is your style ?

I'm 5ft11 and 12/14. I feel great in wide legged trousers and a fitted top, or a fit/flare midi or maxi dress with trainers or boots and tights.
I suit boat neck tops and empire line tops and dresses. Casual clothes tend to be boyfriend or straight jeans (always turned up) and Breton top, merino jumper or sweatshirt.
I'm firmly high street, I mostly shop at M&S (reliable but safe); Warehouse (online/eBay these days) for dresses; White Stuff/Uniqlo (tho not keen on their stance on trading in Russia) for jumpers

Tall here too but it's all in my torso which makes a lot of things look bloody awful. I've also lost the plot food/exercise wise over lockdown and am quite roundy now Blush

I love a midi length hem and 3/4 sleeve. Find them both flattering. Recently I've bought bold colour ditsy print dresses in a simple a-line or looser style. A good statement longline duster style coatigan to go over jeans and simple tops. I also like plisse, for midi skirts and simple culottes in summer as I have no idea how to look smart when it's hot.

High waist wide leg trousers are a firm favourite. I struggle with jeans, M&S Mom/balloon fit are the only style I feel comfortable in atm

Followwing. 5.6 pear but long torso.

Following as I'm really struggling with exactly this. Current styles don't seem to suit my figure, but I don't want to feel dated/out of touch.

Smellyporcupine · 14/03/2022 09:32

I'm long of torso and not so much of leg ( can get away with a 32 inch) but I'm 5 ft 10. So I actually have to buy high waisted trousers to even cover my bum cheeks Blush Now my stomach is less firm it's hard to keep it contained as many tops are too short anyway.

Saw a pic posted of me on social media from something with the kids and I realise I also have the longest neck.

@floofycroissant can you post an example of an A like dress please? I'm clueless ? I think dresses might be a spring summer solution.

I am 5'8" but veyr long in the torso.

All dresses and tops are too short.

I have become ruthless in buying tops, I will only but them now if long enough. It makes it really hard, but it has been much better. Tops down to my crotch line, over straight trousers. Tops usually more fitted. I cannot wear anything tucked in.

I have also moved away from stretchy Tshirts to tope made of cotton/linen. These don't show the lumps and bumps as much as stretchy stuff.

I love the idea of fitted top and wide leg trouser, but i have such big feet and trouble getting shoes, that I can't make the look work in winter. I wear it a lot in summer with sandals

floofycroissant · 14/03/2022 10:07

@smellyporcupine I've bought a couple of dresses from Nobodys Child sales. Wasn't sure whether I'd like them, but they've become really useful, I buy the simpler, smaller prints and looser styles. Worn fairly simply with black tights and ankle boots over winter. Should hopefully work in summer with espadrilles/sandals too.

floofycroissant · 14/03/2022 10:17

Also like longline/midi button up shirt dresses. I wear shorter styles with leggings

MistySkiesAfterRain · 14/03/2022 12:20

Ooh love these ideas. I find empire maxi dresses- that fit just under the bust are good in summer, but they have to skim the hips.

Have found them in Monsoon, Next and even Apricot - viscose or cotton is best.

One of them is a V neck but with short puffy sleeves, so it balances, and has a splashy floral print. Another has a few buttons over the bust- kind of a long tea dress, the sleeves can be pushed up. And the other has a sort of halter style neckline and an aztec vertical pattern which is quite slimming.

Yes I regret not buying them when they were in M&S.
