My blinking corkscrew hair

Shahira78 · 13/03/2022 12:07

Now in my 40s and have straightened my hair for the past 20 years.
Thing is I don't mind curly hair but I don't like the fact they the curls so 'tight'.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a product that relaxes (not permanently) and loosens them?

I remember going to the states and buying a spray there that gave me the most amazing loose curls....could have just been the water though, not sure?

Anyway, i know it's not a major deal, just saves me trying a million products.

Thanks so much x

Don’t know a product but a brazilian blowdry would make it straight for a week or two and then after that you’d have lovely waves for a couple of months.

I wonder if you would be better off posting in style and beauty op? Pretty knowledgeable posters there.

A few ideas in the meantime that may or may not work.

Curly girl method(yes, may end up with springier curls, but often looks healthier.) Beware, very time consuming.

A heavy product like cantu may weigh curls down more.

Frizz ease or a better brand equivalents. Serums can weigh or flatten curly hair.

A straightening balm could possibly work too.

How you dry it. Microfiber towel or t shirt instead of towel to prevent frizz. Diffusion works for some people, hated by others.

Drying in plaits for waves rather than curls (can be damaging if too often/too tight though)

Thanks for this recommendation. I have tried this before but it didnt work on my hair when wanting loose curls. I still had to straighten it.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I really appreciate it!

I have tried most of these methods, including the plaits but my hair doesn't seem to respond well. I think my hair is a type 3a/3b.

Most creams/balms make my my hair just as curly.

I will go over to hair and beauty. Didnt even know this page existed so many thanks again for the guidance x

I have kerastraight on mine about 3 times a year. Doesn't straighten it but gives me looser curls which is easier to manage as I'm time poor at the moment. It's grown (aka the ends don't keep snapping off) since I've had it done too.

My hair is usually a 3c, it goes more like 3b hair so not a drastic difference for me. Straightens some hair a lot more though.

Much easier to straighten if I ever fancy having it straight which is rarely as it takes too long.

Thanks for the tip. Just googled the images and they look great!

Hello, OP.

We're going to move your thread over to our Style and Beauty board now. Hopefully you'll get some more advice there.
