Skin breaking out in your 40s

I’m in my mid forties and up until a few weeks ago my skin was in decent condition but I’ve since broken out in spots across my left cheek. My skin is sensitive and prone to redness but I never get spots and this is like a full on break out all across my upper cheek and down the left side of my face.

I’ve made no changes to my skincare or makeup that could cause a reaction and have stripped back to just cetaphil cleanser and LRP moisturiser.

Anyone experienced similar or got any idea what could be causing it? Could it be hormonal do you think (dreaded peri menopause)? But I’m confused as to why it’s only one side of my face!!

I’ve just started going back into the office and would rather not be covering spots with concealer like a teenager…

My money would be on peri, I'm afraid. My skin is suddenly prone to breakouts in the past couple of years, which has coincided with the thinning hair, greying, night sweats, hot flushes, flooding....yay, womanhood: the gift that keeps on giving Hmm Grin

I third peri I'm afraid.
It's worth asking your Dr for blood test if you don't have any other symptoms.

Do you sleep on your left hand side? Or do you use a phone a lot on your left hand side?

Thanks for the replies! I'll get in touch with the GP to see if they'll run tests. Urgh.

I did think of my pillow as I do sleep on my left side so have been changing it more regularly! Don't use my phone on that side though.

Do these kind of hormonal spots respond to treatment? My skin is dry and sensitive so I don't use any products usually recommended for break outs.

I had this exact same issue. For two years my skin has been terrible and I've had 5 or 6 big spots on the go which even concealer didn't really cover as they were deep and my skin was raw and cracked open. Then as soon as I thought they might be healing, I'd get another load.
I'm 6 weeks into Skin & Me which I read about in here. I'm really pleased with it so far. My skin did go through a bit of a purge around 3 weeks in for a while but the spots didn't get as bad and cleared up much quicker than normal. I'm coming to the end of that now and have no new spots coming through just some old ones which are nearly healed. I can use just foundation now and no concealer which is the first time for years.
My referral code is CAROLINJ54QA if you're interested. I think you get two free months or something like that.

Peri-menopause, 100%.
