Dry scalp, possible psoriasis

My scalp is a bit sore, particularly over my hair crown.

Can anyone recommend a shampoo and conditioner that might help?

Sounds painful. If I were you OP, I'd go into my local chemist and ask to speak to the pharmacist. They should be able to advise you properly, and most chemists stock shampoos specifically for psoriasis.

Hi OP I’m in the same boat and also suspect psoriasis. Have you any other outbreaks or is it just your scalp?

Just my scalp. It's really tender. I'll speak with the chemist when I am in town tomorrow.

I had that, Practice Nurse prescribed Betacap for me. It worked quite quickly

If it's possible Psoriasis, you need to have it examined and diagnosed by your GP. They can prescribe medications (topical mostly) that you can use to get it under control and refer you on if appropriate. As Psoriasis also carries a higher risk of Psoriatic Arthritis, it's also a good idea to have the diagnosis recorded as it makes referral to rheumatology in the future should you experience joint or tendon symptoms easier - and there's an increased risk of cardiovascular events in those with autoimmune disease/uncontrolled inflammation, so that also needs to be taken into account.

In short, see a professional and they can diagnose, don't attempt to treat at home without it.

In the longer term/aside from a diagnosis, T-Gel original can really help ease the tenderness and keep your hair clean - as the steroid lotion and ointments still need to be washed out. And if that doesn't work, there are other products you can try.

Dermax shampoo is good for scalp problems, it's very mild and the coconut oil in it makes it soothing.

I think any condition would be fine, just try to keep it away from your scalp.

T-gel is good, definitely see the GP but T-gel is very good at soothing and calming down any soreness/itchiness

I have relatively mild psoriasis (mostly in remission) - T Gel is pretty good. I've also been using Vichy Dercos with decent results. But yes, see a Dr- they won't do much but you should get it recorded. Lots of vitamin D as well!

I have this and GP prescribed a steroid cream that I have to rub into my hair at night. I have been testing out a few different shampoos. The best one so far for me is Superdrug's own trichology shampoo and conditioner, they also do a scalp tonic in the same range. My skin is still quite dry but the redness has gone also the itching but it's early days. Also good is Noughty shampoo for sensitive scalp from Boots. I was told by GP to take a daily antihistamine as well.

Shite. I have several autoimmune diseases. It was my hairdresser who said psoriasis. Thank you for posting. I’ll phone the Dr on Monday. Mean to to do it today but just thought a shampoo would work.

No problem. It's easy for the other potential consequences of Psoriasis to be forgotten when your scalp (or other parts - flexural is an utter bitch) feels on fire. I did, well, DP did, the scalp lotion tonight and after a couple of hours sitting on the sofa feeling somewhat flammable, I washed it off with T-Gel and my scalp feels much less tight and stingy/itchy.
