Help with slightly too big heels for event tomorrow

Concestor · 10/03/2022 13:19

I've bought some beautiful heels on eBay for an event tomorrow. They are a bit higher than I expected, and sightly too big as I'm a 5.5 and always have to buy a 6. But because they are so high I'm slipping forward in them and they are coming off my heel as I walk.

There's no shoe shop in my town so what can I do to stop my feet slipping? They are court shoes so no strap. But I really want to wear them.

Any ideas?

Big supermarkets will often stock insoles, as will Boots/Superdrug or independent chemists.

deuxgarcons · 10/03/2022 13:24

An insole would be a good option. Should be able to get from local chemist

CMOTDibbler · 10/03/2022 13:26

Party heels insoles and heel grips will sort it

DrWhoNowww · 10/03/2022 13:27

Insoles or those gel things to stop the balls of your feet hurting.

I’ve created a toe pad (like for ballet shoes) out of a hanky before now which will take shoes down a half size if I’m desperate.

LaTomatina · 10/03/2022 13:29

Those gel pads (party feet?) that go under the ball of your foot. Used to get them in Boots, assume you still can?

MargosKaftan · 10/03/2022 14:12

Sorry but my advice is to wear different shoes. I have tiny feet and really 2.5 but in some styles (like trainers) I wear a 3. I've tried to wear a 3 in heels sometimes - usually because I've convinced myself they will be ok when a brand doesn't go down to 2.5 - its always been awful. Its hard to walk, you look odd trying to walk in shoes that don't fit, as the ball of your foot will be in the wrong place for the shoe, they will hurt if you have to stand still in them for any length of time. The grips, the shoe insoles the pads etc will help a bit but not a full half size.

If you have anything else even halfway suitable that fits, wear them or buy something with next day /same day delivery now.

Yes, those gel inserts for the ball if your foot should help - supermarket, Boots (or similar) usually sell them. Double up with a full-length insole as well if you can find one (supermarket/Wilkos etc).

Insoles. I recently got some in Asda. Same situation, had to get half size bigger shoe for width.

Probably available in other supermarkets too.

Wnkingawalrus · 10/03/2022 14:50

Are the closed or open toe? If closed, stuff with tissues?

Concestor · 10/03/2022 16:42

Yes they are closed toe, court shoes. Usually a 6 is ok but they are so high gravity is not helping! We have boots so I'll look in there for insoles. I really want to wear them because they go perfectly with my dress.

I did wonder about packing cotton wool in the toes so might try that as well. Heel grips are tricky as they are usually suede and I don't wear leather. What I need is like toe grips to stick in my shoes but I don't think they even exist?

Gel pads, but also moisturise your feet so that the soles stick to the shoes. May be try this out first to see how well it works for you.

LookItsMeAgain · 10/03/2022 17:04

Gosh you're brave @zurala to post in S&B about wearing high heels. I posted a thread at the start of the week about how I am going to be wearing heels for the first time in ages as I'm going to an event and I was told to wear flat shoes as it's a feminist issue and no one should have to wear heels to an event to look nice Grin

I think the suggestions made so far should work for you. You could even get a full insole and a half insole (to essentially pack the front part of the shoe) which should push your foot back into the heel area of the shoe.

DoubleTweenQueen · 10/03/2022 17:07

Cotton wool might do, or ballerinas use wool fleece to pack and cushion pointe shoes, so if you're in London and/or anywhere near a dance shop?

3catsandcounting · 10/03/2022 17:20

I got some toe inserts from Amazon for some shoes that kept slipping off my heels. I found them much better than heel grips

SingleHandSue · 10/03/2022 18:41

You need a half insole. They’ll push your feet to the back of the shoe. A full insole might mean you lift your feet up too much and the shoe won’t grip at all.

DoubleTweenQueen · 10/03/2022 18:45

See also gel tie pads.
