Their coats, in particular? I have fallen in love with one but it is quite a big investment for me (make that a very big investment).

I do need a new winter coat, though...

Agree Toast catalogues are great fun to peruse. Can anyone tell me from personal experience - are the clothes as nice in reality as they look? How's the quality?

Bluestocking · 04/01/2008 20:07

I can't believe it! My Woolrich down gilet is now a genuine fashion icon. I can vouch for the fact that they last for ever - I bought it 25 years ago when I au-paired in NY,

ArcticRoll · 04/01/2008 20:08

They are selling a life-style and tbh I have been seduced by it several times- the reality is over-priced slightly frumpy(but good quality) clothes.

ArcticRoll · 04/01/2008 20:12

They are able to make extremely expensive dustpan and brushes and pots of orange marmalade appear deeply appealing in their catalogue.

Bluestocking · 04/01/2008 20:15

Sorry, distracted by Woolrich. ArcticRoll is right, Toast are all about aspiring to a lifestyle you could never have (you short, fat prole!) and in truth the clothes are grotesquely overpriced and not well-cut if you are a normal person. They are designed to suit only the women in the catalogue who are all 6'2" aristocratic inbreeds.

Snaf · 04/01/2008 20:16

I don't mind slightly frumpy (some days I aspire to slightly frumpy, tbh). I do want decent quality, though.

I must admit I am seduced by the fact that they are selling a lifestyle, too, but it's a lifestyle that can be mostly conducted in pyjamas. And that's a Very Good Thing, in my book.

I've always been tempted by Toast clothes, they look so great in the catalogue.

They had some Toast dresses in my local TK maxx. i thought they were really poor quality considering the original price of them.

Don't think I will be ordering from them.
