Annoying hairdresser thread

I have a hairdresser who I really like and when I walk out I generally like my hair. I never love it and think well it's never quite what I ask for but put that down to my unrealistic expectations.

Now I had very red hair with a blonde "money piece". I then decided I'd had enough of it and wanted to go an ashy brunette.

The colour was what I wanted on the money piece as that was always bleach.

The rest of my hair wasn't far off but again, wasn't too different to kick up a fuss. My hairdresser did say, it will fade.

I've washed my hair 3 times and it's now a really warm brunette (apart from the front)

Is this a hairdresser issue? Is it my hair?

I once upon a time had a hairdrssser that was fantastic, she wasn't scared to bleach my hair and explained she used a great bleach, which is why she could but why she also charged more and I was happy with that.

Was it a semi-permanent? It will wash out. You can ask for a permanent colour next time but it will need more upkeep for roots, every 6-8 weeks. I have changed my hairdresser loads over the years. Sometimes they leave salons, or you just get a bad haircut/colour one time, or you find their chat/no chat awks.
Notice which friends have great hair and ask for their hairdresser's details if you want to try someone new?

Thanks. We never had the discussion about wether it was semi or permanent. To be honest I'd expect permanent as I go every 6 weeks religiously. I might keep a look out for a new hairdresser.

If you go that frequently she should be doing a permanent, then just touching up the roots for you. Should cost less too? Good luck!

I'll go to my next app and ask her and let her know I'm not happy with how fast it fades etc. Then take it from there :) thanks

Say something at the time.

I'm very fussy re my hair and was wondering whether I'd ever find someone I liked! Plus someone ruined it just after lockdown.

So with this new one, I did research, went for a consultation and was very very clear with what I wanted. Honestly I'm so pleased I was so clear because she did a perfect job!

I'd maybe do what I did, go for a consultation, be brutally honest with what you'd like. If you think she's not listening go elsewhere. My other reason for staying with the new one was I asked briefly to someone sitting there if they were happy and it was a resounding yes. They have clients going back years!

I’m a hairdresser. I obviously can’t see your hair to give a proper opinion however I know that red and warmth in the hair takes a while to cover properly, they do fade and it comes back through. I’d ask her if this is what’s happening and also look at your at home shampoos and use either a blue (for brunette) or purple (for blonde) shampoo to keep brassiness at bay weekly

I need to know: what is a money piece, please? Confused

I HAVE to know what this is?

Definitely a hairdresser issue. I always love my hair when I walk out the salon - go and find someone better that really gets your style. Sounds like you need to pay a bit more.

shagmeriggins

I’d to Google it too. It is a brighter/lighter bit of hair that frames your face and gives you a glow.

I’d need car headlights on me ears.

ShagMeRiggins · 11/03/2022 18:17

Cross-posted w/bluepeacock and thanks Sheldonesque (I don’t think you’d need headlights, stop disparaging yourself) for clarification.

I suppose I could have googled, but was fun to hear replies.

Money piece = what I’ve been doing for two decades, ie getting interesting/lighter colour to frame my face. Got it!

OP, speak frankly with your stylist, or move on. Life is short etc. Grin

I asked a colleague first - hence the googling.

They were confusing it with a money shot. And I was convinced you wouldn’t pay for that in a hairdresser 🤔

A bit different 😵‍💫

Roominmyhouse · 11/03/2022 19:21

You can’t go from red to ashy brunette in one sitting. The ash tones will fade and the warmth will come back through. It’ll take a while to achieve a more neutral colour. And ash tones always fade and need redoing, even on darker hair.

ShagMeRiggins · 12/03/2022 12:52

Sheldonesque how sad what it says about me—I didn’t know what a money piece was but i do know money shot. Grin
