Lines, pores & freckles! Primer & Foundation

Tatapie · 07/03/2022 11:18

Help! I Look every bit my age & more as approaching the big 50.
Primer helps with lines and pores but makes my skin look dry & dull. I don't like heavy coverage & struggle with freckles turning grey sometimes with foundation matches to my fairly pale skin so need a whole new look.

Any tips which counters to visit / which products might help please?

I'm going into town tomorrow if anyone has any recommendations please?
Heard good things about No7 Hydra luminous on here...

I've similar skin to yours, I use this Estée Lauder tinted base and then add a tiny bit of foundation where needed, gives a very good finish as also don't like my face with a heavy foundation.

I haven't got any recommendations but I think you need a primer aimed at dry skin, like a glowy primer. I know Benefit do their Porefessional in a glow version (pink tube) but I've never tried it. The matt ones drain life out of dry lined skin.

Foundation wise I belive that less coverage us better, I have loads of freckles and find that a light to medium base is best I've got a few foundations I like, Clinique Even Better and Even Better Glow are both lovely, Lancome Teint Miracle is really great too, if you're after more coverage than try the Teint Idole. But like I say I find the thicker the foundation the greyer my freckles look. I don't use any powder and I don't use primer either. My skin is dry to normal.

And I'm usually a pale shade, such as Ivory Beige, Rose Beige, Vanilla etc.. So a cool pale complexion.

Thanks, I went to Boots and am trying their No7 airbrush away regular primer & Hyrdra luminous in Cool Beige, see how I get on. It was buy one get one half price so good time to try. I normally use Clinique Moisture Surge tinted moisturiser but am between 2 shades.. Agree anything heavy greys out freckles. If this doesn't work I'll try the Clinique recommendations on here thanks.

I tried the IT Cosmetics CC Cream and it was awful on my mid 50's, lined and open pore skin. It emphasised every line and pore and rather than radiant it made me looked cakey. I bought mine from QVC when they used to stock it so I sent it back. If you want to try it you can get 5ml samples on Ebay for about £3-5.

I use Vita Liberate Beauty Blur mixed with a touch of liquid bronzer, it disguises my pores and doesn't look like a mask. Less foundation and more sheer coverage is definitely the way to go in your 50's.

@IheartJKRowling was it the illuminating one? I hated the original one but the one in the pink tube is gorgeous.

Some other tips

  • hydrating primer. I like the Armani one
  • don’t bring your foundation under your eyes until you’ve done corrector/concealer. Once you done that let it dry and then dab a little foundation on top
  • mix a little hyaluronic acid serum with your foundation so it is more hydrating. Might need a few more layers in certain areas but it will be much softer and les drying

What is your skincare like? I'm no expert but a good base makes all the difference when applying make up. Once skincare is nailed down and working I find I need less makeup. Also look at undertones. Sounds like you need. Warm/red undertones to compliment your freckles and have maybe previously been using something more neutral which greys you out

Can 100% recommend this for pale freckled mature skin. I got it in an advent calendar and loved it. Stocked up and hope it never goes off sale.

Tatapie · 08/03/2022 21:52

Skincare is OK I think Clinique but don't do acids / serums so might have a look at those thanks. I think the warm vs cool is difficult but will try a warmer shade see what it looks like.
Thanks for all the tips & recommendations!

Just go to various counters and ask for samples in different shades. Even take along little pots in m case they try to tell you they have none. Boots used to do tiny screw top pots that were perfect for this.
