Spots after waxing moustache

I was wondering if someone could advise on moustache waxing?
I use veet facial waxing strips and I often end up with spots on the area that I've waxed for days after. Does anyone else get this? How can you avoid it? I looks pretty unpleasant and I'd probably more noticeable than the hair was!

Said spots.

You need to rub a really thin layer of talc on first. Just a tiny bit and almost rub it off. It means the wax sticks to the hairs rather than the skin.

Also, once you have warmed and separated the strips, lay them sticky side up on the cold sink so the wax hardens a bit again. That way when you press it on it isn’t overly warm, it just melts to the hairs with the warmth of your hand as you press it on.

Thanks very much for the advice!

Following as I get these every time and I've not found anything that helps

Orangesquish · 06/03/2022 17:11

This happens to me. One thing I've found that helps (a bit - doesn't avoid them altogether) is to rub the area afterwards with some baby oil on a cotton pad (to remove any leftover wax), then wash with cold or lukewarm water and a sensitive face wash, then put savlon on. Sudocrem helps shift the spots faster if they appear.

I go to a salon to get my waxed for this very reason and it's £7 a fortnight

Coffeepot72 · 06/03/2022 19:10

This happened to me too, so I now use Veet sensitive hair removing cream instead.

HandlebarLadyTash · 06/03/2022 19:13

Gave up & shaved it off - no more problems.

Maflingo · 06/03/2022 19:17

I used to get the same. I switched to threading for a bit which seemed to help. And then bought a Philips lumea which seems to have resolved my top lip issues in only a couple of treatments (wish I could say the same for my chin hair, which has reduced but is more stubborn)!!!!

notacooldad · 06/03/2022 19:17

I switched over to threading. I’ve had no bumps since.

DetailMouse · 06/03/2022 19:20

I use a precautionary Sudocrem "mask" on the area for the two nights after waxing and that seems to keep things at bay. A thick layer of Sudocrem before bed.

I have the same issue when I wax my upper legs and it works for that too.

parrotonthesofa · 06/03/2022 20:48

Hmmm ok so seems not just my crap waxing technique causing the problem.
Those who do threading, do you need to go to a salon for this or can you do it at home?
I think I should probably get it done professionally but it's just finding the time.
Have wondered about a Lumea but they always have such mixed reviews.
Maybe professional lasering is the answer.

Will try the sudocrem too, thanks for the tip!

I've switched to the depilatory cream.

I do Lumea as well but that only kills the dark hairs, and I still need to get rid of the blonde fuzz occasionally.

timeforteaforyouandme · 07/03/2022 21:35

Do you use the wipe after? We do that then put on a cold damp flannel (unscientific but don't get spots)

Or are you doing something unhelpful like bathing before or after

NoraBarlow111 · 08/03/2022 08:49

That is folliculitis, caused by bacteria.

Folliculitis is a common reaction to waxing. Usually goes away on its own but is annoying.

Although I have been waxing (legs) for a long time, I have developed folliculitis in the last few years and use betadine scrub (Povidone iodine) which is liquid mild disinfectant soap which kills bacteria unfortunately it's not available in the uk. I only do one application the day after I wax and it is enough. It also comes in ointment form which could be used for upper lip.

Maybe you could ask in Boots if there is a equivalent.

Do you use a pre wax cleanser and after wax lotion?
wax in the evening, this way you have at least 12 hours to recover with the least amount of bacterial encounters.

parrotonthesofa · 09/03/2022 09:25

Ah ok. I do nothing before or after! Just do it when I have a spare moment. That was done while watching ds in the bath. Grin
It's been a week and it's nearly gone now.
I'm just gonna go back to hair removing cream.

I get spots after waxing my moustache too. I swapped to one of those long spring things ( This thing ) and the problem went away. Takes a bit longer, but as the spring grabs only the hair and doesn't grab the actual skin the spots therefore don't happen.

BusterGonad · 10/03/2022 07:41

I used to get a fair amount of spots after tweezing, so now after I've finished I wipe the area with alcohol spray etc and no more spots.
