Just that basically- I love shopping for clothes, shoes bags etc. and try to buy things I really love, but I find I love things from different styles. It means I end up with A LOT of clothes etc.

So, are you a rock chick, a goth, ladylike, preppy etc.? Or are you like me who tends to do a different sort of look on different days or occasions. For example, I love the french inspired looks of sesame with classy understated leather bags and shoes and a pretty blouse or dress. But then I also go to somewhere like Zadig & Voltaire and feel I love their slouchy rocky looking bags and so wear it with black jeans and biker boots and the next day. I also go for a lot of preppy styles like bretton tops and blue jeans on another day.

I never go extreme with these looks- so never full on biker outfits and hair is blond and quite boring and conservative makeup, but definitely don't stick to one style which makes building a co-hesive wardrobe tricky.

I would like to but find that it takes effort and money to go all in on a signature look. I find more understated clothes that are less recognisable are better because then I can wear them more frequently without people realising. I've had the same handbag for 12 years for example (and I only have one!)

Thighdentitycrisis · 06/03/2022 11:54

I don’t OP, I’m just like you and only just realised that’s why I have so many clothes!

I buy a nice pair of trousers eg and then don’t have the right shoes to wear with….

I’m a bit of a charity shop fiend too which doesn’t help

wfrances · 06/03/2022 12:04

Nope
That's why I have so many clothes
My style is mood dependent 😁

IvorCutler · 06/03/2022 12:38

I do. I’m quite scandi influenced. I’m reasonably tall and have strong facial features, I think it suits me more than other styles. I like simplicity and usually wear black, browns and neutrals and solid gold or silver jewellery (I think my colouring is neutral).

Imsittinginthekitchensink · 06/03/2022 12:54

20+ years ago I was a goth, but have now adopted an indie/rock/boho type look, not necessarily through trying, it has just sort of evolved. I do tend towards scruffy and I am always v informal. I like the way I dress mostly, although my weight hinders my choices sometimes. I can be dressed down for work but on the occasions where I have to dress more professionally or formally I really struggle, as I always feel like a little girl playing dress up. I have a work thing coming up where I will need to look more formal, but I'm finding it v hard to even imagine something appropriate, plus all my colleagues do a Shock face if I ever turn up in shoes or a skirt.

EdenFlower · 06/03/2022 12:59

I'd love to have a signature style but not sure how to narrow it down. I've started off a few times- I decided I was going to go for a classic English look and shop at places like Jigsaw etc. but what when you see something you really want and it doesn't fit the theme!? Or, I tend to dress for occasions and the 'signature look' seems out of place with certain friends or a particular event- eg.

I have way to many clothes but always think I have nothing to wear when an occasion arises.
I wear dresses 95% of the time and like a vintage/retro vibe. But since covid I have only been out once so spend 6 days out of 7 in pjs or hoody and joggers. One extreme to another.

TabithaTittlemouse · 06/03/2022 13:46

Bag lady is probably my style. I rock it.

LovelyRita1 · 06/03/2022 13:52

I'd say I'm minimalist casual / wellness blogger. I don't have to dress up for work and I like to be comfortable

LovelyRita1 · 06/03/2022 13:55

I used to have a vast and eclectic wardrobe and then realised I was only really wearing the same sorts of things and all of them were pretty casual. I sold all my fancy dresses and just kept things I wear day to day. I realised recently I don't have anything in my wardrobe wardrobe a nice event like a wedding ATM, but I'm on the hunt for a 'wear anywhere' navy dress which will be my back up funeral / wedding / christening dress.

Wagsandclaws · 06/03/2022 14:00

I don't, I used to be much more overweight but that didn't stop me from copying other styles.

I've got a dressing room stuffed with new size 16's and 18's ( I used to be a size 28 and lost 6 stone ) but the spare tyre from having 5 DC's and being so overweight has stuffed me for getting into smaller clothes ( maybe I have the odd 14 in my wardrobe though) .

I want so much to copy the white company, scandi, French, preppy style as it's so neutral and simple but my 36ff bust looks bloody awful in light colours.

I've been using Instagram for inspiration, if I see a look I like on someone you can bet I've got similar clothes to copy the style, I love dresses, blazers Ect.

I bought the most beautiful buttery soft tan leather dress from m and s recently which I've used as a jacket pulled in at the back and also as a dress with merino wool tights and chunky ankle boots.

I dunno, I wish at 50 I did have a signature style but I waver from print dresses to simple wide leg trousers and a cashmere jumper , I love the Ralph Lauren look too, it's a bit contrived and I'm probably too big to pull it off but I've given it a go before now Grin

SpikeySmooth · 06/03/2022 15:10

I was a grunge type in the early 90s. Now I don't really gave a style, a bit mumsy maybe, but I wear a t-shirt or jumper jeans and trainers. OK, a Mumsy version of grunge, if you will. I have a few brightly coloured Joe Browns tunics and one dress 😆. I don't wear make-up unless it's a formal outing. I'm plus-sized, and try and wear things to my shape rather than be fashionable.

TrooBloo · 06/03/2022 15:28

Is jeans and a t shirt a signature style? Grin

1frenchfoodie · 06/03/2022 15:52

When I’m dressed my best I’m probably a flamboyant gamine - relatively fitted clothes, shortish jumpers vs slouchy., More separates than dresses and flashes of interesting texture/pattern. But then I love a cropped wide leg trouser and that is probably a no no for a gamine or anyone my 5ft3 height. I dont have the discipline / discerning eye to build a wardrobe around a signature style.

Bodgerandbadgered · 06/03/2022 16:08

Have you tried finding out your Kibbe style?
It analyses based on your body shape/proportions/facial features/height. I am a soft classic and it suits my perfectly.

So I suit classic pieces but with some softer details - slight frills/soft to touch materials/drapes/vintage style jewellery/small floral style prints and other delicate details. It's been really helpful in identifying why certain things didn't suit me.

I also worked out my 'colours' which helps too. It's not a flawless method and you need obviously need to take into your personality, but it helped me fine tune my wardrobe into pieces that generally work well together and I feel suit my body, colouring and lifestyle. I just did it all online for free, there's loads of info out there.

@TrooBloo

Is jeans and a t shirt a signature style? Grin
If it isn't then I have no style Grin
katepilar · 06/03/2022 17:18

No. I wear clothes that are comfortable enough to wear all day.

I relate to this, can we coin the phrase 'Mumnge'?
LovelyRita1 · 06/03/2022 17:22

@Bodgerandbadgered, I've just done a quiz and I'm a dramatic type. JUST like Cate Blanchett. Exactly like her 🤣🤣. I wish, obviously. But it does make sense. Thanks for that

VerityPJohnson · 06/03/2022 19:27

I have literally worn the same outfit for at least ten years. I have a difficult figure to dress so keep to the same style/uniform. My friends and family and colleagues could predict what I am going to turn up in. I dislike wearing skirts and dresses, they always make me feel overdone for some reason. I wear variations on my theme to all occasions. Almost all my clothes go together. My problem is there are still too many.

wfrances · 07/03/2022 08:17

Just done the quiz , soft classic here too

SueblueNZ · 07/03/2022 10:16

I guess you'd describe mine as monochromatic. Loads of variations of black and white with a smigeon of grey. Pants, tops, skirts, dresses, solid colours, stripes, spots ... All in my favorite colours.
And it's not as if I planned it this way.
I just love those colours.
Some relief comes from accessories, particularly red, though my favourites are black funky bags and flats.
