£50 to spend on skincare

bob1985 · 05/03/2022 17:13

Looking to invest in some decent skin care.

So my question is if you have £50 to spend what do you buy? Could be one product or a few.

Skin is sensitive but at the same time prone to blackheads and spots.

I really like The Ordinary and Inkey List. They are both really good value and have quite extensive ranges.

What are your skin care priorities? Eg anti aging, acne, moisturising etc. Are there any particular products you want / don't want eg cleanser, toner, serums etc and then people can be more specific in recommendations.

It depends what your normal routine is.

I wouldn't spend a lot on a Cleanser or moisturiser but the steps in the middle are worth investing in.

I like cosryx products if you have oily skin.

I'm a dryer tenancy skin so I love a gorgeous facial oil like Sunday Riley.

I like the espa serum if I want something hydrating.

Or honest beauty do a great clay mask that's not stripping at all.

I'm also obsessed with these Korea sponges, they feel so amazing when warm over my face.

I also love the Laniege Lip masks. I actually use them as a lip balm all the time, a tiny pot lasts absolutely ages and the flavours are delicious

If you have beauty pie they do great ceramide capsules which are very hydrating.

For vitamin c I love Oskia capsules or the Medik8 serum. Both add a gorgeous glow.

This is more my makeup step but the Erborian CC cream is excellent at blurring skin and giving a no make up look.

I love so much skincare!

Came to recommend the same 2 brands

I love sheet masks for my face (and hands and feet) so I would buy 20 of them. Perhaps some BB cream from Erborian too (not expensive, but I love its subtle blurring effect).

An effective lip balm too; I haven't found many better than Burt's Bees or Nuxe honey range.

I love inkey list polyglutamic acid after a cleanse, then for daytime body shop drops of youth serum then body shop vit e night cream (use for day time), and on an evening I love the polyglutamic acid, then lumene oil, and night balm topped later with Sunday Riley ceo or Juno oils.

I favour rich creams to thin but that’s personal preference. I have found the more I use the more my skin drinks. I don’t have dry skin to start with but it absolutely thanks me for more moisturising products.

I’d go Paula’s Choice. For £50 you could get a BHA toner for the morning and a retinol for the evening. Then pop to boots and buy yourself a good basic cleanser, moisturiser, and an SPF from whichever brand you like best and you’ll have a simple but effective routine.

thanks all , some good suggestions to explore.

I think my main concern is getting the right moisturiser...sensitive yet oily skin seems to be quite hard to source products for

@bob1985 I have sensitive combination skin and have found that anything water based irritated my skin and oddly adding a couple of oil based products has helped reduce my oiliness and control my shiny head! I stay away from anything with retinol or glycolic acid as no matter how mild I start they irritate my skin. Micellar water also really irritates me too.

I would recommend a cleanser, two serums / boosters and a moisturiser as a good manageable routine and you can definitely get all of these for your £50 budget.

I use an oil cleanser (super facialist vitamin c from Amazon £7.5) followed by L'Oréal fine flowers cleansing milk (£4 in boots). Although to be honest I am so super lazy I only use the oil in the morning when I shower, and just the milk at night as I can do it in bed with cotton wool pads (washable reusable ones) as I can't be arsed to stand in the bathroom for ages messing around with skincare.
Then I chuck on some serums / booster type things- I have Buffet from The Ordinary, Rose Hip oil from the ordinary, hyaluronic acid from the ordinary, collagen booster from inkey list and squalene from the inkey list. Most of these are around £8 each. I randomly pick two and chuck them on. Finally I finish with a moisturiser- I have peptide moisturiser from inkey list which I tend to use at night, sometimes mixed with some rose hip oil and then from the ordinary natural factors HA moisturiser which is more daytime.

I have, over the years, spent hundreds on skin care across loads of different high end brands and I really rate the above for quality / not irritating and they are good value so if something doesn't quite agree with me / live up to the hype then it's not a disaster.

Sorry just to add I also use an spf every day. In winter it's a spf / foundation combo from Bobbi brown.

In summer I skip the moisturiser and use this amazing 50 spf which I found in Japan years ago. It's light, not greasy, no white cast and is moisturising. I used to be able to get it on Amazon but it's not on there at the moment

I’d spend the lot in Aldi, I’ve very sensitive skin & their products do not irritate. They have great cleansers, moisturisers, toners, oils, serums etc all very good, would have money left over to get a few of their JM candle dupes, probably change as well. Website has good reviews of products.

HermioneWeasley · 06/03/2022 22:02

For a moisturiser for sensitive but oily skin I’d try Dr Hauska LIGHT rose day cream with the ordinary either their niacinimide with zinc serum on first, or their purse niacinimide power mixed with the moisturiser.

HollowTalk · 06/03/2022 22:10

I would get Vichy cleanser, toner, daytime moisturiser and evening moisturiser. You might have to add a few pounds that £50.
Use them all for a month and you will see a huge difference.

TabithaTittlemouse · 06/03/2022 22:26

Emma Hardie is my go to skin care.

PadBurnup · 06/03/2022 22:31

I would be buying at least one bottle of True Rosehip oil www.trueskincare.co.uk/product/rosehip-rosemary
It is devine. Also really rate CeraVe cleanser and moisturiser. Buy the big pump bottles- they last for ages and are about £12 each.

Oceangreen · 06/03/2022 22:50

La Roche-Posay products are brilliant for oily, sensitive skin. Especially their Effaclar range. Boots often have 3-for-2. I am also a CeraVe lover. The basic Facial Moisturising Lotion is very good, they also do a good Hyaluronic Acid Serum
