Factor 50 before makeup?

L0stinCyberspace · 04/03/2022 13:36

I'm seeing lots of skin issues on my face to do with prior sun exposure. Using boots Hydraluminous tinted moisturiser (no SPF) at the moment. If I put factor 50 sunscreen on my face instead of moisturiser and lash the Hydraluminous on top, will that give me sun protection, or is there a better way to do it?

I really recommend www.neutrogena.com/products/sun/ultra-sheer-liquid-sunscreen-broad-spectrum-spf-70/6886009.html
For going under foundation and not making a greasy mess.

Darklane · 04/03/2022 13:52

I like NIVEA SUN UV Face Suncream SPF 50 Shine Control £8 but often on offer

timeforteaforyouandme · 04/03/2022 13:55

The neutrogena link above says discontinued?

Annasgirl · 04/03/2022 13:58

I use that too OP and I use La Roche Posay Factor 50 day cream underneath. They have a rich cream, which I use, as I have dehydrated skin, and they have a non oily liquid, which my DD uses.

I have been using Biore Watery Essence, which is fabulous, trying out their Watery Gel, which seems a tad more drying but still good, would recommend both.

WestrayWife · 04/03/2022 14:28

I use the Ultra Sun tinted face creams in the summer- they do a SPF 50+ and a SPF30 I think. If I need to then I can put a bit of foundation on top.

Hi this is one you can spray over the top of your make up.

I usually apply factor 30 in the morning and use this for top ups (I always wear a sun hat anyway when it's sunny) but I think you can just use it on its own.

Sorry, I don't know why I said hi there Grin

purplesequins · 04/03/2022 14:46

I would like to know as well.
I have a factor 50 one which is quite greasy. bobbles under make up/tinted moisturiser.
sprays I can't use as they make my eyes sting and water (yes, I do close my eyes to apply). most 'sensitive formulations set off my eczema.

hihellohihello · 04/03/2022 14:48

I use ultra sun (long lasting) and then tinted face powder on top when it is dry. If I want a concealer I use a mineral powder one. The long lasting ultra sun is the only suncream I have found not to leave my skin oily. I am a bit scared of the alcohol based ones as I frazzled (didn't have a sore burn but did peel) my neck one year using one of those and now have thread veins on the frazzled area. Although that alcohol based one was useful for my feet when wearing sandals.

3peassuit · 04/03/2022 14:53

Another thumbs up for Ultra Sun here. I’m a long term Isotretinoin user and Ultra Sun is the one my dermatologist recommended.

TooManyPJs · 04/03/2022 14:57

I use LRP anthelios invisible SPF 50 on my face.

It's very light. You don't know you have it on. It doesn't sting your eyes. It's fairly Matt. I moisturise underneath.

I was using LRP anthelios hydrating. It is more hydrating but you do get that horrible caked feeling you can get from sunscreen and it's quite shiny. I def prefer the invisible.

TooManyPJs · 04/03/2022 14:58

Oh and make up goes on nicely over it

trulyconfuseddotcom · 04/03/2022 15:09

This is my top tip! www.dermalogica.co.uk/products/solar-defense-booster

violetbunny · 04/03/2022 16:56

The Ultra Violette sunscreens are awesome under makeup. Australian brand so are excellent sunscreens as well.

L0stinCyberspace · 04/03/2022 17:18

@Annasgirl great- I found La Roche Posay products excellent before so I'll look out for the day moisturiser as I've dehydrated skin too. Smile

@ParadiseLaundry wow I've never seen over-makeup sunscreen! Does it leave any oiliness or whiteness?

@purplesequins same here; I spray my sunscreen into my palm and rub it in instead of spraying it directly onto my face.

Lots of you are recommending Ultrasun I see. Thanks for all the replies.

Not at all, it's a really nice product and my skin is dry too and feels like it helps keep it hydrated. It does feel like you're wasting loads as you have to spray quite a lot of it.

Suzi888 · 04/03/2022 17:28

I’ve used ultra sun and No7 both were great.

NamiSwan · 04/03/2022 17:41

I use super goop unseen sunscreen which goes on like a primer. Its factor 30 but broad spectrum so very good protection.

Nooooooooo! Dammit. Thank goodness for this thread then, I use it daily and my current stash is nearly out. Will have to try one of the others.
northernstarsoutherncross · 06/03/2022 05:11

Another vote for supergoop unseen sunscreen. It's like a primer
