So I know this has been covered before but I was hoping for some advice about a skincare routine. I am late 30’s and starting to see fine lines on my face and neck is a bit crinkly 🙈 I usually put moisturiser on under my foundation and take my makeup off with Nivea cream (blue bottle).
I feel like my skin needs more now, I am hoping to find something I can use under my makeup same as I do currently? I had a look in boots and was totally overwhelmed by all the different lotions available. What should I be using? Can someone give me a total idiots guide?!

Hi! You don't mention what skin type you have and whether you have sensitive skin so I can't offer specific advice but I would recommend the following as staples of a good skincare routine:

Daytime (after cleansing)

  • A serum eg Vitamin C in the daytime
  • A moisturiser
  • SPF

Night-time (after cleansing)

  • A serum eg retinol (start with a low percentage and alternate days until you skin is used to it)
-Moisturiser

If you want to put some actives into your skin a serum is a good way to do this as it has smaller molecules and will penetrate deeper into the epidermis than a moisturiser can. There are several affordable skincare companies eg Inkey List or the Ordinary that have a whole plethora of serums and products of different strength at good prices that you can experiment with to find what suits you skin. A lot is trial and error :) Good luck!

It's best to start Retinol now, it promotes collagen production in the skin so reduces the appearance of fine lines.

If you do a prescription like Dermatica they give you a custom formula based on photos of your skin.

I would also use a dedicated Spf under make up to stop more damage.

You might also want to try a vitamin c for glow in the morning

Gives you a discount (and me ☺️)

I'd also look at putting some niacinimide into your regime. It's a hydrator and an anti-oxidant. I find Vit C hard to tolerate but I love The Ordinarys niacinimide and zinc.
Start off slowly to make sure your skin can cope and gradually add in more products.

Proper skin care is very important at any age. I recommend adding a moisturizer with SPF protection and a hydrophilic tonic to your care. And I do not recommend using Nivea cream, as this is a decent skin care product. A specialist selected my skincare. (I found a very good specialist at the eurocharm.ca clinic, where they helped me find the professional care that suited me.) So I also recommend contacting a specialist, and then your skin will thank you more!
