Does anyone have advice about Beauty Pie

moonbedazzled · 02/03/2022 22:52

Can anyone experienced with Beauty Pie give me some advice? I've watched youtubers raving about Beauty Pie and always thought it a bit of a con. But on Black Friday they gave the offer of being able to buy £300 of products for no membership fee so obviously I bought some bits and pieces. I quite liked most of them but I've messed around with other products at the same time and I can't be sure how good any of them actually are.

I see that they are now doing a one off £59 annual membership for £3,600 of products, which seemed to be a lot more then the old 50pts for £5 totalling £600 for the year? Have I got those prices right?

So if you use Beauty Pie, do you think this is a good deal? Is BP any good? What products would you recommend? I just am so undecided as to whether to give it a go or not.

I find the make up excellent and can believe that is premium - but the skin care is more of a mixed bag. I've had some really good bits of skin care don't get me wrong - but some of the cult bits like Plantastic and Japanfusion I thought were overhyped nonsense. Japanfusion in particular felt like cheap mineral oil based products to me.

NoToLandfill · 02/03/2022 23:01

Some of the make-up is great. However it is a really annoying selling model. I've stopped as it was irritating me. Rather poke around in boots

moonbedazzled · 02/03/2022 23:06

Thanks for replyimng to fast, Margot. I bought the Japanfusion elixir because it had such a good review. I liked it but the top came loose and I lost most of it in my bag! TBH, I think I preferred The Ordinary's Buffet. But I haven't really tried it out on its own tbf. I also like the uber youth anti wrinkle serum but I don't know that I see any difference.
Which makeup do you like? I got the eye shadow sticks but that's all.
Are you a member? Is this new membership a good deal do you think?

@NoToLandfill What do you find annoying about it? I heard lots of items are always out of stock. I was wondering if this paying up front so you can buy in larger quantities from day 1 might be better. But I don't know.

Likewise I’ve found the makeup good and the skincare so-so, and have been actively disappointed by the shampoo/conditioner I’ve tried. I have the £5 per month subscription which works for me as I don’t go through things very quickly. In fact I’ve got a ridiculous allowance at the moment as I haven’t been using makeup much over the pandemic! The candles are nice too, but also wasn’t impressed with their perfume.

PancakeBae · 02/03/2022 23:54

I nearly took up one of the 'spend £xxx worth of points for free!' trial offers (Black Friday?) but when I read the very confusing small print I think it meant that you were basically using up a year's spending allowance in one go, rather than getting anything for free. Whatever it was, I felt it was rather disingenuous, and definitely confusing, so didn't bother.

Have been a member under the old model and the new and definitely prefer the new! The way I look at it is do I save the £60 by buying things that would be more expensive elsewhere. The answer is always yes. Agree re mixed bag but that’s true of every brand I’ve ever used, I love their neck serum- real visible results, perfume I really like though not good longevity (but is v cheap so happy to repeat spray), eye shadow sticks are great, lip serums ditto, lip sheers the same. Lots to try and always something new.

blisstwins · 03/03/2022 00:56

I have the new plan and like it. I also like the eyeliners. Lip sheets, shadow sticks, and the soul
Something or another body polish. I have not used much of the skincare, but enjoy the makeup.

JofraArchersFastestBall · 03/03/2022 06:52

I was a member under the old scheme. I did like a lot of the make up products (but at the same time ended up wasting a lot of money/products because I bought the wrong colour etc). I found the skincare made massive claims but often did very little. The hair, bath products etc were very disappointing and I didn't like the perfume.

What I hated was the marketing and the way it suckered you in and kept you coming back even when things weren't actually very good value when all added up. I don't deny it works for some people - but I ended up spending a lot more than I needed to. I now just buy what I need, from brands I like and spend a lot less money.

MargotEmin · 03/03/2022 07:22

I'm on the new £59 annual membership (and had a discount code at the time making it £49) - I had resisted joining under the old model as it seemed confusing, this new model is way more straight forward with no monthly spend limits (well, maybe there is but it's in the thousands to stop blackmarket sellers from setting up shop, not a limit any ordinary folk would have to worry about).

I remember reviews of the new model at the time it came out saying it was really a bit of a no brainer compared to the old model and that those on the old model would be better off switching over to the new one.

kirkandpetal · 11/03/2023 19:14

Im toying with the £59 membership to just be able to buy one item which seems ridiculous but I swear it has made a difference to my make up.

It's the one powder wonder

www.beautypie.com/products/one-powder-wonder-uberlucent-universal

Nadine Baggot raves about it so much that I ended up ordering it one some one off special (black Friday offer?) and it really is brilliant. I apply it over my Erborian CC or BB cream (another amazing find so late in life!) and it just perfects the finish. Take away any shine and blurs beautifully. It's like nothing but everything. Impossible to see on the skin - not old lady powdery - and doesn't sit in wrinkles etc.

If I can get the membership at an additional discount then I might go for it.

kirkandpetal · 11/03/2023 19:18

Quick hunt and BEAUTYPIE10 gets you £10 off annual membership

woodhill · 11/03/2023 19:20

I've been very tempted but am very confused

I liked the eye serum but not sure who it is made by originally

I don't go through make up very quickly and don't want to get stuck with loads of products

Rina66 · 11/03/2023 20:23

I use the fake tan mousse, one powder wonder, bronzer and the waterproof mascara - they're all my favourite products so I'd definitely order again (and have!)

Youth bomb is also good and the candles smell lovely - wouldn't join to order just those though, but I would just for the first 4.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 11/03/2023 20:35

Japanfusion is very scented. The hyaluronic acid serum is very very scented. Don't like the capsules, they feel very smeary.

I love their eye patches and I use their retinols. The moisturiser in the black jar is very odd but also very good. It's my favourite product, along with the eye serum in the rollerball thingy.

And I love their matte lipsticks and the eye pencils.

DameCelia · 11/03/2023 23:09

One powder wonder is great.
The new mascara is a tubing one and better than the Clinique and Estée Lauder tubing mascaras after their reformulation.
I love the eye patches.
I've repeat purchased the ceramide capsules and Uber youth serum.
Not bothered by the perfume, candles, shampoo or conditioner.
Other make up items are ok.

MissKittyFantastico84 · 12/03/2023 10:15

I love BeautyPie! I also find that economically it's good for me, as it stops me impulse buying other additional products that almost always are a waste.

I LOVE their featherlight spf 50, japanfusion cleanser, make up setting spray, eyebrow pencils, youthbomb serum, eye serum roller ball thingy, super healthy skin gel cleanser, cream blushes and their Birthday candle smells incredible!

Plus, for me, it's handy to just get everything sent to me in one box at home.

I'm a fully signed up advocate. x

With these complicated business models I always ask myself 'why isn't it good enough to just sell in a shop?' online or otherwise.

From this thread it seems there are mixed quality products and they are hoping people will buy them anyway because of incurred credit from the subscription model making people feel they are then getting their moneys worth.

Ofcourse with all subscription models the best thing for them is if you don't buy anything at all because they take your money for nothing.

woodhill · 12/03/2023 11:46

In layman's terms how does it work

journeyofsanity · 12/03/2023 12:42

I don't really understand it. They compare their product prices to top top premium product. How do I know theirs is worthy of the comparison. How do I know theirs isn't just more like Boots No7 or Similar drug store brand quality?

Hotvimto3 · 12/03/2023 12:45

Ive never been able to understand the model

bellinirocks · 12/03/2023 13:01

I have the £59 annual membership - i defiantely save that money as I love skincare and the skincare is cheaper than what I would have bought otherwise !
I love their cleansers, toner mists, overnight oil , neck serum and body polish . Also always use the eye liners , foundation, concealers and blush and lipsticks.

Like others have said the perfumes don't last long, and the shampoo/ conditioner is disappointing. I do like the coconut hair styling spray though.

Not tried the candles but like the diffusers.

I think if you like spending money on beauty stuff - it is worth a membership as you will find products you like that are cheaper.

QueefofSheena · 12/03/2023 13:01

I did a free trial and bought some things that I really liked, like the 50 SPF and a serum that I can’t find at the moment. I’d be tempted to join but I’ve got so much other stuff to use up first that it would be a waste. I’m interested in what other people think of the Youthbomb serum though.

journeyofsanity · 12/03/2023 12:42

Yes this is my EXACT query too! There’s absolutely no means of verifying this claim is there?!

DameCelia · 12/03/2023 13:45

@journeyofsanity and @Myeyeballsareonfire the way you assess the quality is by using the product.

See above, for me some products are very good quality, others aren't. Outside the type and quantity of vitamin C, the type and quantity of retinol (if you're not actually using the real thing and getting tretinoin on prescription) and the accuracy of the SPF rating - which is governed by law in the UK..... everything else is personal preference, surely?
