LENZING ECOVERO opinions?

I'm noticing this a lot, and many claims to sustainability. However, most of the stores promoting it in their products generally sell mass manufactured stuff, so I am wondering if it is 'greenwashing' and actually just shit?

Am looking at a kantha jacket at Monsoon and noticed it was created with 100% LE.
I wonder why they simply couldn't have made it with cotton, like any other kantha jacket.
What's the deal with this stuff? Would love more info.

I've just sent a dress back to Monsoon that was made of this stuff. It felt like cheap jersey and no way worth the price they were charging!

It’s environmentally friendly viscose….of a sort.

It’s made from wood pulp as is viscose, but the processes involving the manufacturer reuse a lot of chemicals and byproducts as part of the manufacturing. This is why it’s environmentally friendly.

It’s still viscose though and crappy and creases easily. It’s made from eucalyptus trees l think.

I've bought some tops from Baukjen made of this. They are really nice quality and wash well. They still look like new and I've had them for a couple of years.

Mixed results! Thanks for sharing info. I need to get out and see some of this in the wilds!

I like it, hangs well, non sweaty, not entirely awful for the environment. It's also less scratchy than normal viscose.

I also have some Baukjen items made of it, no complaints.

IvorCutler · 02/03/2022 17:55

It doesn’t get sweaty or cause static, so it’s fine by me.

IvorCutler · 02/03/2022 17:56

I don’t have a problem with viscose either.

ShanghaiDiva · 02/03/2022 18:12

It’s environmentally friendly viscose: made from sustainable wood sources, cleaner manufacturing process etc.
Lenzing (the Austrian company) has pretty good credentials in terms of their environmental policies. My dh worked for lenzing for nearly 20 years.

Viscose is My favourite fabric apart from cotton jersey. It's hard to find a fabric that is environmentally sustainable, cotton for instance is very thirsty, wool has some really dodgy practices.

Porridgeislife · 02/03/2022 18:20

I suspect it’s greenwashing. I’ve got a few bits from Baukjen made of it & they have bobbled and/or stretched more than I’d expect for the price.

I was just about to mention Baukjen but more negatively. I returned the tops I bought made if it as they were awful. And took ages to get a refund
Juno22 · 02/03/2022 21:08

Kindlykanga gosh, I was really pleased with mine. I haven't bought much from Baukjen but these were the best things I bought. I bought some tops and casual trousers during the lockdown. Not bought anything recently.

KindlyKanga · 02/03/2022 21:11

@Juno22 I guess it's just hit and miss like a lot of places.
