Smart shoes for a 10 year old girl?

shoefactree · 27/02/2022 20:48

Her criteria: can run and climb trees
My criteria: smart, not sandals, keep dry if raining, and the above else she'll refuse to wear them.

I have no idea where to look or what style to suggest.

When you say smart school smart or casual smart? whats her usual clothing style?

Whatwouldscullydo · 27/02/2022 21:05

What's the occasion?

Wedding, party, school?

shoefactree · 27/02/2022 21:07

Posh/semi-posh restaurant smart. Usually wears jeans and a T-shirt or leggings and a T-shirt if she's going a sport thing. Only wears a dress to the beach so she can change under it!

Leather converse?

Whatwouldscullydo · 27/02/2022 21:12

Dms?

NightmareLoon · 27/02/2022 21:13

Surely there are some sturdy soled brogues out there for running/climbing?

shoefactree · 27/02/2022 21:15

The "occasion" is a party at a posh restaurant. No, I've no idea what she's going to wear either. I don't want to spend a fortune, and I'd like it to be something she might wear again. She wears trainers/wellies/keen sandals (hideous, but practical for climbing trees and skateboarding) to school depending on the weather (no uniform).

These brogues with a sturdy sole? And a jumpsuit.

Avocadobacardi · 27/02/2022 21:37

Some nice white and clean converse and you can put some pretty ribbons in them

Avocadobacardi · 27/02/2022 21:39

I genuinely wouldn’t bother with proper shoes for her - I def wouldn’t get anything like the black brogues above, much too school shoe. I think a pretty trainer works perfectly with a nice jumpsuit or skater dress

They are a bit ugly for a party🙄

I could see this working
StampOnIt · 27/02/2022 21:45

My Dds wear chunky ankle boots with dresses, looks great.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 27/02/2022 21:46

I'd go with black skinny trousers, a top with a bit of sparkle and some clean converse style shoes or ankle boots.

Ok, point taken. 😀 My own girls are quite cutting edge and wouldn’t be seen dead in shoes with ribbons in though and OP did say her dd was more interested in the functionality.

l was going for a DM look with a cheaper price tag.

Thanks for the link Yellow, I fear Dd would also think they would be a bit ugly. I think she also wouldn't be seen dead in ribbons, although she is partial to a bit of sparkle.
Are DM's easily wreckable? If not, are they usually easily to sell on? That's the only way I could justify getting her some!

OP posts:
YellowDots · 28/02/2022 07:19

No, they are virtually indestructible and easy to sell on as they are always popular. They are just so expensive in the first place.

milkysmum · 28/02/2022 07:22

If they are not going to be worn that often could you not just buy some DM style boots rather than forking out for actual DMs?

shoefactree · 03/03/2022 13:40

DD has chosen these. Assuming they fit her, what's the best way t9 protect them from scuffs and scratches? They have a shiny surface, (patent?).

I got DD some gorgeous DMs from eBay at that age. Red patent. Got for a steal on eBay.

nutellingyou · 03/03/2022 13:44

Schuh also do their own version, she has black ones for school which were much cheaper than regular school shoes too.

waltzingparrot · 04/03/2022 19:44

Shiny boots?

We went to a party in a smart restaurant last autumn and 11yo DD wore a black jumpsuit and then a pair of black trainers. I, too, got concerned about appropriate footwear but then realised that most of her male cousins would probably be in trainers so why couldn't she? It was definitely the right decision as they ended up having a massive game of stuck in the mud or something and she would have been miserable had she not been able to join in properly.

Martinisarebetterdirty · 05/03/2022 18:52

Glittery converse or fluffy Ugg style boots worn for my leggings and hoodie dedicated 10 year old. We went to Zara kids the other week and she chose some wide legged cream trousers and matching sloppy cardigan and some black bootcut stretchy trousers (she was told she needs some nice restaurant outfits for holiday). I know cream is dangerous but I was delighted it wasn’t black! She refuses to wear jumpsuits 🤷🏻‍♀️
