Help with my pixie cut

I finally went quite short with my hair about two weeks ago. I love the look and it's great when it's just washed and dried. But on the days when I don't wash it, it looks like I've stuck my finger in an electric socket! The sides and back just stick out at right angles and the top looks quite bouffanty like an old lady. My hair is kind of fine but I've got a lot of it and it tends to stick up a bit anyway. (When I was about 12 I had to get a very short haircut after doing a particularly bad job cutting it myself. The boys at school used to call me '6 inch' because my hair stuck up so much 🙄).

So any advice on how to manage it? Are there any particular styling products I should be using? I need something to make the top look a bit more textured and choppy. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Wet it slightly and shape it with your fingers on the days you don't wash it.

I'd suggest putty or clay but they make my hair go BIG.

Easy enough to wash it every day I find. Mine also sticks up but not all over just randomly the front and some of the back. I'd have to drench it and dry it if I wasn't washing it so easier to wash

I have ghds and they really work for smoothing the sticky up bits. Sleeping on a silk pillowcase helps mine too. Some of my friends have silk turbans to sleep in to ward off the dahlia look.

I use salt spray on mine and scrunch slightly to give it choppy waves as opposed to Nicola Sturgeon smoothness.

I have short hair and look like a scarecrow every morning. I have to wash it or wet it and then blast it with the dryer. It's very quick to do, though.

Sleep with a beanie hat on Grin
I went from bra strap length to pixie and while I loved it, it drive me mad waking up like a demented pixie every morning and having to wash and dry it. I had it for about two years then just missed having hair I could tie up/wear in a variety of styles so I grew it again. I had to have it cut every 4 weeks too Growing it out was not fun & I ended up having extensions once it got to mid ear length to avoid Mullet central!)

Another one here who runs a wet hand through the problem area and then blasts with a hairdryer before styling as normal with straighteners, styling putty and spray

(The back and one side of my hair always sticks up first thing in the morning - DP says I look like a chicken 🐔)

Next time you get it cut ask the stylist to show you exactly how to style it. I use a putty for texture and a pump shine spray for definition.

VO5 products are good - look in the mens section for putty/wax.

Some of them stay in the hair longer than others but like PPs I also sometimes just damp my hair down and blast with the dryer on the second day.

I have to wash my short hair every day, no question. Otherwise it does the same. I like the styling powder in a little tube...think it's v05...gives my hair texture without the gunkiness

harriethoyle · 25/02/2022 22:40

I use fish food (think it's called) styling wax and also hair powder to scrunch and give texture on in between days
