Hi. I've posted a couple of times under different names.

Dd has lots of baby hairs (1-2 inches) all around her face / head. When he hair is in a bobble it is very noticeable.it's allover not just at the sides.

Her hair is thin fine and wavy so if she has it down it's a mess at the end of the day. Like mine. It's neither straight or curly.

People comment on her hair every day. She's in y7 and wants hair like most of the other girls.

I know there isn't an answer but any hints and tips or product recommendations please.

I'd be so grateful thank you.

Definitely look at silk scarves or pillow cases.

The ordinary multi peptide serum is really good. Just rub a little bit in before bed. I have quite fine hair and it soaked in over night. Obviously these take a while to work. But she also needs to be very gentle with her hair. Brushing it from the bottom up. Sleeping with a protective style.

For now, the best thing to do is Google procteive styles of fine hair and concealing baby hair. Get her to watch a few videos to ideas so she feels more confident.

And yes, her friends are arses and not her friends at all.

Oh also, how is her diet? Does she is eat well with a varied diet?

How does she dry her hair after washing? This is crucial imo. If she lets it air dry or roughly blow dries with a hairdryer then no product out there will solve this completely.

She needs a tiny tiny bit of serum or product rubbed between her two palms, when her hair is wet after shower turn head upside down and rub the hands through the hair from scalp to tips of hair.

Then blow dry with a professional grade hairdryer (Parlux is a good one). Use a brush and do it in sections. Always point the hairdryer on to the hair in the direction you want the hair to lie. I’m sure there’s a million videos on YouTube. The thing is that whatever way the hair is at the moment of going from wet to dry is the way it will stay for the day (unless you get rained on! She will also need a decent hood on her coat that comes right over her whole hair).

Old mascara wand and hairspray.

Percy & Reed wonder balm is good but very pricey.

I really think the issue is telling the other girls to piss off, though. I had this hair as a child but children were allowed to have normal hair then!

I have fine wavy hair. The best products I have found are Avalon Thickening lotion brushed through when hair is wet and then Boucleme curl refined gel brushed through through - use a denman brush. Then I use a hair dryer to dry the roots head upside down to each side and back and then the ends. When it’s dry it’s crunchy and you need to gently scrounge out the crunch - after this my hair looks amazing. Will try to find a video demonstrating the method.

Have a look at Lush shampoo called Wasabi Shan Kui. It's designed to stimulate follicles for growth and thickness. It's a bit of a weird bright green colour and obviously not a quick solution but I've definitely noticed an improvement in condition and it's got of positive reviews. I've been using lush products in my hair for years. They're pricier than shampoos you'd get in a supermarket but switching to natural products has made such a difference in taming my fluffy baby hairs, static, greasy roots and fairly fine hair.

I agree it's styling that's the issue here.

You either need to blow dry her hair to smooth it down, put some gel on it, scrunch it up, diffuse it and curl it or run some gel through it and scrape it back into a pony tail whilst wet. Then use hairspray to smooth it down when you re do the pony tail.

She's probably at an age where you should teach her about styling her own hair too.

CourtRand · 25/02/2022 10:16

Could her hair be breaking? I'd suggest a silk bonnet worn at night and no tear bobbles to protect the hair.

I'm 26 and have lots of fluffy baby hair. I style it down using the Revlon Volumiser like a blow dry, but that might be a bit brown up for her.

CourtRand · 25/02/2022 10:22

Grown up* not sure why it keeps autocorrecting

Hi all. I have bought her silk bobbles and a sleeping cap.

She's been drying her hair herself and it looks thicker. I'm lazy and never dry my hair.

She's worried about school tomorrow though.

I think she probably just hasn't got to the stage yet where she realises it's not her hair. These girls are awful, because they are awful and if it wasn't her hair it would be something else. The issue is them.

And if they are mixed race (as am I) the hair issue is quite a big issue and quite complex. The stuff I have seen on social media around 'white girl hair' is pretty horrifying and vile. But partially, comes from years and years of non white women being told their hair must be hidden, it's messy, smells, nasty, greasy, unprofessional etc. Which still happens alot now. But online, it does seem to have become acceptable to rip young girls apart for having 'white girl hair'. Some people think it's fine because it's happened for the so long to non white women. I think its shitty whoever it's aimed at or coming from.

Bullying someone isn't ok, Regardless of the reason and back ground.

I would guess the hair, as pp said is actually breaking, rather than not growing. The silk pillows/bonnet should help that and she just needs to not be too rough with it.

Oblomov22 · 28/02/2022 07:05

Have you actually taken her to GP, asked for blood tests, asked for a referral to specialist? It could be nothing, just her age, or she could be lacking something. Ferritin, vitamin D, B12 or zinc. There is such a thing as a hair pull test, where they extract 10 hairs to check ...follicle etc.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/02/2022 07:55

Even if she sorts her hair out to how she likes it the bullying is likely not to stop. I think you're focusing on the wrong thing.

John Frieda secret agent smoothing creme is excellent.

Lavender24 · 28/02/2022 09:51

Kids are so bloody mean. Her hair sounds like mine and I started frying it with straighteners at the age of 14 because I was bullied about it, I ended up having to have most of it cut off because it was ruined. I just embrace my natural waves now and I quite like it now I'm older. I don't use any product on it all except shampoo and conditioner and Garnier hair food mask once a week. Biotin tablets really helped thicken it up after I had post partum hair loss but I understand this might not be appropriate for your daughter since she is still very young. I hope you manage to get the bullying sorted out OP.

Would she suit a perm (or a perm type thing, whatever the current name would be)? My hair has always been flat and thin. When I put it in a ponytail it is as thick as a pencil. If I could change anything at all about myself it would be to have thick hair (and skin that tans, but that’s another story!).

I had perms in the 80s and my hair looked loads thicker with them. I used mousse (not to the extent that it would sort of crackle when you touched it) to keep the wave in place. A gentle wave might really help.
