Bras

I am completely fed up of bras. I have just thrown away another one. I think the local charity shop could give every lady in my village a bra with the amount I've donated there.

I have been measured, measured myself, worn bralettes fitted bras no wires you name it I've tried it. I have decided my body is not designed for bras. I have broad shoulders a short upper body and big boobs. I've changed weight so much between babies and breastfeeding I've given up.

Sometimes I find a bra that is ok and it goes silly in the wash. I am now wearing misshapen stretchy bras which about the only think I can wear.

Has anyone ever found a bra that fits?

I am quite large there OP and love Freya bras except now Debenhams has shut l don't know where else sells them
Nightmare though finding one you get on with

JustSmallFry · 23/02/2022 08:10

Yes, but I use a specialist lingerie shop that's been there for years. The owner is about to retire, but fortunately her daughters are taking over. They really listen to my needs and wants and always find a solution.

It's expensive, but they really last. I am careful to always wash them in a bag and I never tumble dry them

RampantIvy · 23/02/2022 08:14

Bravissimo or an independent lingerie shop. Avoid M and S.

Creeeper · 23/02/2022 08:20

I went through a soul searching, heart wrenching mission to find the perfect bra and I really love the M&S flexifit non wired bra

It doesn’t feel like you’re wearing a bra, just feels like your boobs aren’t really there which is a lovely feeling

22Newnames · 23/02/2022 08:25

Personally I have found that Fantasie bras fit me really well (also quite large). M&S now sell them online at least.

I think it’s a case of finding the brand that fits you and sticking to it.

Brastop is a good website for bras and good returns policy too.

@Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin

I've bought several times through the Freya website and I've had a great experience.

StarlightLady · 23/02/2022 09:08

We are all different shapes and sizes, so one style for one person is not going to suit another. Personally, l’m a top heavy 36F and the Panache Tango suits me more than any other. But that may not be good for someone else.

FunnyTalks · 23/02/2022 09:11

I think so much depends on the shape of your boobs but I love Bravissimo own brand stuff. I find it so consistently comfortable I don't bother looking elsewhere.

BlackCoffeeInAPoolOfSunshine · 23/02/2022 10:12

I tried so many on after losing quite a lot of weight. I don't find wireless ones any better than just wearing an extra layer of clothing personally - with the exception of wireless high support spoets bras which essentially stay the same shape even when you're not wearing them and you manhandle yourself in - those give good support and shape but are less comfortable to wear for the whole day than a wired bra that actually fits!

After trying on an absolutely insane number of bras I sticbt just one bra style now. It wouldn't be for everyone but I have 4 Freya Fancies Corsage bras. They are absolutely perfect for me - they give my middle aged self support and shape (I need a decent bra, especially as I lost a very substantial amount of weight a while ago) and are completely comfortable in a 32 G. I wear them for up to 20 hours straight due to doing various shifts at work combined with having kids to get up in the morning and never feel any inclination to take them off until bedtime.

Its a complete pain in the ass, incredibly time consuming (and potentially expensive if like I did you make multiple false steps first, buying something thinking its right but a full day's wear proves otherwise) finding the right bra, but once you have its life changing.

My Freya bras have so far washed well - absolutely never tumble dry!

My DD swears by Kalvin Klein bras and Adidas sports bras. She was also astounded by what a difference the right bra, rather than something grabbed quickly in a general clothes shop, made. You just have to find what's right for you, which won't be the same as for random other women necessary obviously.

I find curvy Kate best for me,38HH

raffegiraffe · 23/02/2022 12:26

Gossard glossies. Amazing and really comfortable

MrsMoastyToasty · 23/02/2022 12:29

I swear by going to an independent lingerie shop . We're lucky enough to have one in the small town where I live (I'm near Bristol). My favourite brands are Fantasie and Elomi. I always hand wash my bras and line dry (or hang them from the shower rail if it's raining).

jeaux90 · 23/02/2022 14:57

I absolutely hate bras. I've stopped wearing anything wired.

If you are near a John Lewis try Wacoal. They are the only "nice" bras I like.

I agree m&s is really bad

I always used to wear M&S but did the boob or bust measuring last year and my now favourite most comfy bra is a Panache Jasmine or Envy.

Creeeper · 23/02/2022 21:30

M&S isn’t bad. Their method of measuring bras is bad but the actual bras are fine

Oh lovely - l will have a look!
Thank you x

londonmummy1966 · 24/02/2022 19:04

Brastop often have Freya and Panache. John Lewis stocks Freya - they usually offer a fitting service that isn't as bad as M&S. I get myself measured every couple of years at Rigby & Peller and then buy from Brastop.

Inthestillofthenight · 25/02/2022 06:45

Good old Triumph (not Doreen!) I buy them on mass (I live overseas where they are made) perfect fit everytime, back in the UK I buy if needed the same size, although they can be 4 times the price but do get a few in TKmaxx if I am back. Always find them well made and last quite a while, and I am guilty of shoving them in the washing machine.

NetflixAndSauvignonBlanc · 25/02/2022 06:53

I recommend measuring yourself with the Boob or Bust calculator and reading their helpful tips and advice. You will likely find they come up with a different size from what you're wearing, this is normal. Give it a try and go from there! They have a private Facebook where they do free fit checks too. My boobs have never been so well supported!

I ordered this after it was mentioned on another thread. I bought two at half price and luckily they fit really well. The under bust band doesn't dig in like some. Not tremendous uplift but I was looking more for comfort.
Triumphs own website certainly has loads of styles.

Yes, I agree. That's what I meant.

What's the actual problem with the bras? Too small on the cup? Too small on the boot? Straps falling down? If you give an idea of the problem then we can give you a better idea of the solution perhaps.

IMO, it's not just down to the size of bra, but the style. I prefer a balcony bra over those weird moulded T-shirt bras. I've always preferred padded bras but in lockdown ordered some non-padded by mistake and they were great.

I also think you need to spend the extra to get the right size. I'm a 40B currently. I've always been broad across the back and shoulders, with small boobs. Nowhere on the high street has this size so I need to go to 'specialists' to get the correct size.

You say you've been measured, have you been fitted? So someone actually shows you how to put on your bra. Too many people have the shoulder straps too tight and the back back practically on their shoulders when it needs to be lower down.
