Sore, itchy, flakey scalp

Looking for recommendations for something to help clear up my scalp please!

I've always had a very sensitive scalp and usually alternate between head and shoulders itchy scalp shampoo and t-gel which keeps it at bay but lately it's worse than ever and nothing is working!

I use Philip Kingsley and a scalp lotion from dr when it is really bad

Maybe try something without sulfates? Most OGX shampoos don't have it and most other ranges have an option now too (there's a tresemme one, pantene, herbal essences). Or brands like aveda or pureology.

I find Redken Scalp Relief pretty good.

Ive started smoothering my scalp with the B&M £1 Argan oil hair masks every wash as an intense hydrating mask - leave for 5 mins and then rinse, using my tangle teaser to comb through a remove any flakes. This seems to be the best thing for me at the moment, and lasts the 3 days until my next hair wash. I have also tried T-GEL and head ans houlders and found neither worked.

My friend has just recommended the Morrocon Oil scalp treatment oil so i will pick a bottle of that up this week and see how i get on!

I had the same - tried everything!
I swear by the body shop ginger shampoo.

I have the same problem (well, I think it's psoriasis but only recently discovered this).

Used Phillip Kingsley Itchy Flakey shampoo for years, and then it stopped working (assume they changed the formula). Since then, have been through several different shampoos! The next best I've found are Neutrogena T-Gel and Nizoral. Even Head and Shoulders didn't work that well.

Redken dandruff control didn't work, and one of the Moo Goo varieties also didn't work (both were recommendations from Mumsnet). Hope springs eternal that Phillip Kingsley will start working again - as I have a stockpile - but seems unlikely.

Body Shop Ginger Shampoo and Conditioner 🙌

Google seborrheic Dermatitis.

If it sounds familiar What you need is a shampoo with salicylic acid. I’m currently using a Vichy one

Does any of the shampoo or products have MI in? (Methylisothiazolinone)

This causes about 20% of the population an adverse reaction and it's in shampoo, shower gels, washing powders etc

blueoranges · 22/02/2022 12:23

Thanks so much for all of your suggestions, I will look into them all!

Body shop ginger shampoo is a brilliant product for itchy scalp but if yours has got unbearable then Polytar scalp shampoo would be my suggestion. I was originally recommended it by my GP. You don't need to use it long term just for a few washes, which is good as it does smell like tar! I don't find it that unpleasant though.
