Pre teen acne, which cleanser?

Hi

My Dd is 11 in May and has some spots on her forehead, mostly whiteheads and little pimples. I wanted to get a facewash for her and got Clearsil Clean and Clear but it leaves red patches on her skin. I'd read that a cleanser with salicylic acid was good for spotty skin but after the redness with Clearasil 8not sure if it contains salicylic acid actually or is just too harsh) I'm wondering if I'd be better getting something altogether milder?

I'm not in the UK but I can get Simple facial cleanser (already have the moisturise for her and she's using it after the Clearsil) so maybe I'd be better just getting that?

She has quite a lot of these spots, it's not just a couple. Only on the forehead though really.

It's not Clearasil actually it's Johnson and Johnson clean and clear

We tried chloroform, didn't do much. Now on Acnecide face wash and cream. Cleaned up loads. Has benzoyl peroxide in it, helps fight off bacteria. You need old towels though as if not washed off properly it bleaches the towels.

My boys confidence is much improved. Use the face wash in the am and pm and cream on actual spot breakouts not whole face.

I would recommend Cerave cleanser with salicylic acid. My teens use it and works well.

Most ranges aimed at teenage skin are far too harsh. Avoid anything exfoliating as this will make her skin produce more oil and make the problem worse.

I’d also avoid simple skincare. It’s anything but and contains lots of chemicals. I’ve got pretty hardy skin but simple skincare brings me out in spots.

I looked at cerave but they only had the normal to dry skin. Worried it might be too harsh? The clean and clear is exfoliating actually so that's probably not good

Cerave is fantastic. Superdrug usually carried a good range of it.

I also buy the Revolution spot treatment: it's salicylic acid, calamine and other things. You dunk a cotton bud in and apply to spot itself and it dries them up a treat.

I'm not in the UK. I've found cerave in normal to oily skin so I've bought the foaming cleanser for her. Will see how she goes with that.
She's not actually bothered about the spots at all but it's good to know how to look after your skin.

Acnecide, I had to switch to this as my usual stuff wasn't safe in pregnancy, it has helped loads and is as good as what I was using, the spots soon cleared up. Need a good moisturiser as it can be drying.

This is a great cleanser! I'd buy an spf 50 too, and a light moisturiser (cerave or la roche posay toleriane ultra fluide) to build a mini skincare routine.

I couldn't find cerave moisturizer except for very dry skin in the shop I was in, I'll have a look elsewhere for it.

Avene cleanance range is good. Try the wash and moisturiser. The Pixi clarity toner is good. My daughter has gone through quite a lot. Try one thing at a time first. I would go with the wash first. My daughter also uses epiduo which the GP prescribed. Does she have a fringe and if she has get her to grow it out? Change pillow case every night.

La roche posay effaclar range is great. Cerave smoothing SA cleanser. I think the inky list also do a salicylic acid cleanser. But if you really think it’s acne not “just spots” your best bet is to go and see the dr about it.

DD's cleared up using Nip and Fab teen. It's been brilliant for her skin. It looks really healthy now.

No, I was just using acne as shorthand really.

second the recommendation for La roche posay Effaclar range - you'll find it in boots, Superdrug etc.

BusterGonad · 22/02/2022 17:46

My son is 13 and uses Bioderma Micellar water, it's quick and easy and doesn't dry his skin out. I've bought him the one for sensitive skin (pink lid) I'm also not in the UK and they sell it here (Africa) and I'm my previous place (S. E. Asia).

OrangeBlossomsinthesun · 11/03/2022 23:13

Just to say she's been using the CeraVe foaming facial cleanser now for a few weeks and her skin is much clearer. Thanks for the recommendations!
