Preteen blackhead / spot treatment

LittleOwl153 · 19/02/2022 23:02

Seeking help for my 12yr old daughter who has a chin full of blackheads as well as a fair number of spots across her face.

Can anyone suggest a treatment we can try - she's struggling with such a lot at the moment and her face is just getting her down!

(She has the clearasil face wash for black heads - it isn't working!)

@RiverSkater

My DD uses Acnecide wash, it has be benzyl peroxide in it, you leave it in for 1-2 mins and wash it off. Freederm spot cream is also good.
I agree, Acnecide wash twice daily as sorted out both my daughters

Watching with interest. My dd13 has just starting using the acnecide cream - didn't know there was a face wash as well

Another one whose DC has used Acnecide, the face wash, gel and moisteriser. It has really improved his skin but ruined a number of towels (I don't mind though!)

Did your DC have to build up using acnecide? I'm my DD only uses it every other day to try and build it up. I didn't know whether the face wash would be too much as well

Used a loofah body one, should help, dig ‘em out

Our go prescribed my 12 year old antibiotics and benzoyl peroxide. He also said he must use a salicylic acid product, we use the Superdrug face wash and soap bar.

Good luck, a trip to the gp should help

It’s either cream or face wash. Not both together. Both have 5% benzoyl peroxide, it’s just she prefers using the face wash.

Yes, DD10 built up to using it twice daily. Started out once daily. She had some sore/ dry skin at first on her cheeks but gave it a rest for a couple of days/ moisturiser and started again and she tolerated it quite quickly, within a month. No problems now, and controls spots well. Great stuff... just remember to use a white towel...

Noisyprat · 21/02/2022 21:23

@Dollygirl2008, my DS uses their daily cleanser, gel treatment and then moisturiser, see on their website: www.acnecide.co.uk/complete-try-me-kit-with-medicinal-benzoyl-peroxide-leave-on-treatment/12691899.html

however Lagarthatheviking is right, if you use the face wash spot treatment is that OR the gel because both contain benzoyl peroxide.

I started DS off on once a day and now he does twice a day. The stuff is quite strong. It's really important to use an spf moisturiser because of this and I just decided it was easier to get the set and get him in a routine.

It's not advised to use them both together, just one or the other.

Bleached towels or bedding 😆

Dollygirl2008 · 22/02/2022 07:43

Thanks - I thought that would be the case but thanks for confirming!

Dollygirl2008 · 23/02/2022 09:10

Does anyone know whether the acnecide takes a while to work? My DD has been on it for a couple of weeks so, and if anything, it's worse!

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/02/2022 11:15

It doesn’t suit everyone, the dr has loads more they can prescribe though.

My skin hates it too, and tretonoin.

Lagarthatheviking · 23/02/2022 14:16

I can’t remember how long it took to work- I think one skin cycle is 6 weeks?
