Want to buy myself something. I prefer vintage/ antique jewellery.

Opinions on this?

Why can't I post any more pictures?!

It’s lovely!

Wnkingawalrus · 20/02/2022 14:17

It’s really pretty.

RavenT · 20/02/2022 14:46

Stunning. I love coloured gems and 18k yellow gold. It's a beautiful setting too.

I am also somewhat stunned at the price though!

How much would you expect it to be? Any idea?

It’s a pretty ring but it’s a lot of money. I’d expect it to be £500 tops.

Shmithecat2 · 20/02/2022 15:49

It's beautiful 😍. Depending on the quality of the stones, I think the price is reasonable! Does it really matter if its not though? If its affordable and you love it, buy it.

QuizzicalEyebrows · 20/02/2022 15:55

I really like it but I'd look around price wise. As it's secondhand it's normal to negotiate on a price

I asked what the best price they would do and they said £820.

What do you think of this? Half the price and a bit prettier I think. vintagepink.com/collections/all/products/copy-of-18ct-gold-ring-set-with-three-natural-rubies-and-four-diamonds-1

RosesAndHellebores · 20/02/2022 16:22

It's very pretty op and I like it very much. However can you post the carat sizes and clarity/quality grades - also the ct of the setting.

I agree with pp's. It is expensive. I think you would get a better deal at auction which is where the jeweller probably bought it. Or check out your local pawn shop.

I think if you sold it on you would get between £380/£420 for it. I think you would pick it up at auction for less than £500.

Thanks for posting but that one isn't my style.

I did like another one on that website though but it was £1750!

Have messaged them for the specifications. Will post them when I hear back.

The thing is, OP, if you love it and you want to get a present for yourself then go for it! No one else can really advise on whether it’s a good choice or not.

I bought myself a ring last year for around that price - if I posted it, people might say it’s not ‘worth’ the price but I love it so I don’t care.

But she's not buying it to sell it on, so what's your point?

I would LOVE to see it!

@Shmithecat2 but I don't want to pay more for it than it's worth. I hate wasting money!

OP posts:
RosesAndHellebores · 20/02/2022 19:52

@Shmithecat2ithecat - the point is that the op may be ripped off. And why spend £895 when you could spend £500 and have another £395 to spend on yourself, stash away.

May I ask, do you usually pay twice as much as you have to for things?

If that's your train of thought, why bother buying jewellery?

No, I pay what I think it's worth to me. Have you found a similar ring to the OPs, for half the price?

Journeynotdestination · 20/02/2022 21:46

@RosesAndHellebores please link rings on auction sites or elsewhere that are £500 or that you think will reach that price. Bear in mind that auction houses charge 30% on top of the final sale price. Otherwise your comments are pointless.

Rainallnight · 20/02/2022 22:15

@TowandaForever I’ll DM you.

TowandaForever · 21/02/2022 12:52

@RosesAndHellebores

The central ruby we would assess as weighing around 0.50ct. The combined weight of the diamonds we assess as a calculated 0.22ct, colour grade H, clarity grade SI2.
