DRY HAIR!

Since I had my son 18 months ago my hair is dryer than the Sahara desert.

I've tried every shampoo I can find in the normal shops and even spent more money than I felt comfortable with on Olaplex which did precisely feck all AND I had the privilege of paying £45 in the process.

I'm using argan oil after washing at the moment which helps a little with the fried looking ends but does anyone have any tips?

Is sleek lovely shiny hair too much to ask ever again?

I don't dye it, I very rarely use heat on it and it was trimmed not that long ago. But it's still a frazzled dry knotty mess. It never looks shiny, just flat and dull.

Anyone? Before I shave my head.

Have you tried any of the Cantu products? I have very thick coarse thirsty hair and the leave in conditioner helps. Most people find them too hydrating or greasy. Worth a try.

HallOfHearts · 19/02/2022 17:56

No I haven't thank you I'll take a look.

When was the last time you had your hair cut. Maybe that would help?

khiels olive oil conditioner works well for me

BoodleBug51 · 19/02/2022 18:16

I find my hair goes to pot if I'm not eating enough protein or if I'm run down. And I swear by Philip Kingsley elasticizer....... works way better on my hair than Olaplex does. I find only the salon treatment works, the home stuff is way too watered down.

I have really dry hair and a scaly scalp. I see that Head and Shoulders are doing a new range for this purpose, some of which contains hyluaronic acid. So I thought rather than waste more money on something new I'd try experimenting with putting a few drops on my hands and rubbing it into my scap and hair after washing. I use the Hada Labo one from Superdrug. So far, its positive, worth a try if you have some that you're using as part of a skin care regime?

L’oreal extraodinary oil elixir, need more than it says on the bottle but pretty good. Olaplex 3 good for shine, olaplex leave in creme is good if blow drying but i rate elixir for a leave in conditioner.

Have you tried not washing it?

HallOfHearts · 19/02/2022 18:35

@Justkeeppedaling

Have you tried not washing it?
I tend to wash it every 3 days on average but if I leave it longer than that it gets very itchy and my scalp goes flakey.

Is it silicon or chlorine (swimming) build up? Happened to DD's hair. Awful, dry, tangled.

Clarifying/anti chlorine shampoo helped a bit.

Then a couple of years ago she moved to Faith in Nature (silicon/sulphate free) shampoo and conditioners and hair has been amazing ever since. No build up, conditioner could get to the hair shaft - zero problems.

Try coconut or olive oil, saturate your hair with it and sleep with it on overnight, put a plastic bag or shower cap on. Shampoo out next day thoroughly and condition. Works for me, my hair is naturally very dry coarse and really thick. Either that or Bleach (brand name ) hair mask you can get it in Sainsburys or Tesco. There was a thread on here about it recently

LadyNell · 19/02/2022 19:17

Tried Elasticiser, didn't do anything. I also use a leave in conditioner as well. Also the Elvive wonder water is quite good

LadyNell · 19/02/2022 19:20

Sorry thought of something else. I've just ordered some Charles Worthington Moisture Seal shampoo and conditioner on offer on Amazon £ 9 for both

Poetrypatty · 19/02/2022 19:21

Mine's dry too and Elasticiser did nothing for me either. But what does work quite well is Umberto Gianni 60 second curls 1 minute moisture mask. I use quite a bit.

Have you tried co-wash. Essentially not using shampoo and just washing your hair with conditioner? Probably worth trying for a couple of weeks as you do t need to go buy any new products.

AlwaysLatte · 20/02/2022 08:41

Tigi Bed Head Urban Antidotes no 3 is the best I've tried for dry hair.
