Lovely old Bohemian things!

I really love some of the styles and interiors from the early 1900's to late 1920's, Edwardian architecture and whatnot.

I'm also really fascinated by Virginia Woolf and the Bloomsbury group, so watched the 3 part series 'Life in Squares' last night. And oh did I love the settings and clothes!

Where oh where could I source some of this stuff? I love the gowns, patterns, details, and would probably incorporate it for loungewear, pottering in summer garden, etc.
I don't like the idea of polyester recreations so can't imagine where to look, apart from ebay, but it seems to take ages to tunnel through the crap on there....

I particularly like the long cardi's, gowns, cotton underthings, jewellery...

Are there any online stores that sell good quality stuff like this, or would it have to be antique/vintage? Any suggestions as to how I could recreate similar styles?

You may find some Gudrun Sjoden items work for this style!

Liberty has garments that look like that - expensive but definitely no polyester.

We watched that at school!

No polyester, just silk and cotton:

Musrim Selection do a small collection/collation of Victorian and Edwardian repro clothing.

Will check all of these out, thanks everyone!

I do like a few Gudrun things but the colours never, ever suit me. I go for more muted tones, with the odd bright bit, but Gudrun is full on wild! I love the saffrons, bright cerises and gorgeous greens but they sadly do nothing for me.

@scottishnames

Bernardette Banner might interest you.

Here she is talking about historical costume in films - which ones get it right, and which don't.

Here she talks about Edwardian hairstyles and make-up, if that's relevant:

She also has a great many Youtube videos where she shows herself making historical costumes. They might just inspire you to start sewing again!

Is that a Gibson girl hairdo? I love these!

I know what you mean about Gudrun but they do have a selection of black/cream/natural colour garments.

scottishnames · 19/02/2022 13:56

Confusedparticle Yes, it is indeed!

Wordlewobble · 19/02/2022 15:28

Watching with interest. I think I was maybe born in the wrong era. Some of these dressing gowns look absolutely gorgeous.
I am also re-kindling sewing/dressmaking and would love to have a go at making one.

Wanted to re-bump this thread in case anyone has any more ideas?

I've really got into watching films and series set in the 20's/30/s recently, and keep on finding more and more inspiration.
I loved 'Ladies in Lavender' with Judi Dench and Maggie Smith. I was smitten with Natasha Mcelhone's outfits, especially her painting jacket.

Any recommendations of more stuff to watch would be most welcome!

Found a gorgeous long robe on ebay (originally Toast) which was £70 less than when new. Looking for a few silky slip like things now, and anything remotely similar to these gorgeous pyjama's/house clothes:

Gudrun sjoden (spelling) has some nice bohemian stuff. Some of the patterns are a bit zany but there are plainer fabrics too in autumnal muted colours.

Jansobieski · 27/02/2022 17:09

Sorry just noticed someone already mentioned it Blush

noodlezoodle · 27/02/2022 18:28

OP if you search for 'bloomsbury set fashion' on Pinterest you might find some good links.

Also if you search for 'bloomsbury inspired clothes' on Google and then go to the Shopping tab, there are some interesting things and you can filter by price, size, fabric etc.

This Etsy shop looks promising: www.etsy.com/shop/TheSeamstressOfB

noodlezoodle · 27/02/2022 18:45

This might work for nightwear: www.etsy.com/shop/onestop78

WhoppingBigBackside · 27/02/2022 19:12

Plumo could be worth a try

ConfusedParticle · 28/02/2022 13:39

Thank you, I love those nightdresses! I already have a couple in that style, i like to waft around nonchalantly in them during warm weather Grin

The seamstress link looks a bit more 40's than 20's, but incredible stuff.

Already have my eye on a few Plumo things.

Please come back and share some pics as you go, I'm really interested to see what you put together!

I’ve never actually bought from either of these shops (yet!) but I keep thinking about getting some of the lovely floaty dresses and kaftans for summer.
