What to wear on holiday in Marrakech

I’m going to Marrakech over the water holidays and don’t know what to pack to wear.

I’m taking hand luggage only which makes it trickier as I don’t have the option of taking choices.

What would you take for 3 days?

I went in April a few years ago. I took loose cotton tops and linen trousers, and a shawl for evenings. Nothing tight or revealing. Also comfy sandals or trainers, as you will be walking a lot. One evening I think a guy tried to pickpocket me so I'd say think carefully about what kind of handbag you take with you. I loved Marrakech, but take care of donkeys and motorbikes down dark alleys and don't be afraid to haggle in the souks! Have a great time OP.

Having now read the thread, I know women have been hassled there, but personally that didn't happen to me, probably because I was with a 6 ft bloke, and I'm 50, the thing I found most distressing was the beggars and all the stray cats!Sad

I've been several times and have never had purely sexual hassle from anyone. I've been misdirected by someone who wanted me to tip them for helping me to get back to where I started from (this is really common) and have had a monkey thrown at me by a man who wanted me to pay for a photo with a monkey, but otherwise no trouble that seemed directed at me as a female as opposed to just normal 'let's screw some cash out of the tourist' stuff, which I'd expect anyway. No trouble even in my glory days as a twentysomething and definitely nothing now. Have never been accompanied by a man on travels there so it wasn't that protecting me, either. You'll have a lovely time.

I with was a group of female friends - not a six foot bloke! No hassle.

I think the previous poster was very unlucky

Add me to the list of people groped in Marrakesh. I was wearing loose trousers, long sleeved loose shirt, and a headscarf. I wouldn't recomment anything more revealing than that, for sure.

Also just wanted to say, I had some of the most delicious food I've ever tasted on holiday there, and the best day of my holiday was when we did a cookery course. If that's your thing, highly recommended. As is a hamman.

Add me to that list. I went with my mother in 2015 and the sexual harassment was on another level. I ended up covering up to the point of wearing a scarf over my head to walk around. It was awful and I was mortified for my poor mum having to listen and witness it.
I would like to go back and I am sure at almost 40 and with a male partner it will be quite a different experience.

Three days? Two pairs of loose comfortable trousers, two loose long sleeved tunics, a couple of vest tops for underneath, underwear, sandals or trainers, a shawl for shoulders/head and evening warmth.

The men in Marrakesh are just awful no respect for women and grabby. We did a five day walking tour staying in a village in the Atlas Mountain. The men were friendly, conservative and respectful. A day trip would be worth it, it's really beautiful.

One thing I would say, OP, is that it's quite normal to have a male masseur if you book a massage - which I would hate - and sometimes hammam staff are men, too. I have never had any trouble in Morocco, as I said before, but obviously others have, so it's worth bearing in mind that hammams might be a place where you could be in a vulnerable position so worth checking whether there are male staff.

I love Marrakech. There's a fair amount of hassle, but you can have a laugh and joke with them, never had a nasty response. The food is amazing, get recommendations for where the locals eat, even if it means getting a taxi a short distance out of the tourist area.

Clothing? Practical and respectful. Loose trousers or dress, flat shoes or trainers.
