Hi, I hope you wise ladies can help me πŸ˜€

I bleached my hair a few days ago, with low lights added, but I don’ didn’t like the platinum look me soo I’ve re dyed it reddy chestnut brown thinking that the red would be enough to counter at the blonde.

I love the over all colour, but the low lights have come out green!!!

I have an orange I could put over them, or is it worth getting a red?

Just for information…. I have been using semi dyes without developer as the bleaching process has really damaged my hair. Soo I’m going to stick to these types.

Thanks for your help!

I’d get advice from a hairdresser - Josh Wood do free telephone consultations and the consultant gave me excellent advice when my home colouring ended up too dark. I think tomato ketchup helps reduce green…strange but true. Can recommend Josh Wood products…that colour gloss works very well.

ThirdElephant · 17/02/2022 09:44

I've heard the ketchup thing as well, but I think that's for when dyed blonde hair goes green after exposure to chlorine and sun. Worth a go though.

ThirdElephant · 17/02/2022 09:45

FWIW though, it doesn't look green to me in that picture.

Cocolapew · 17/02/2022 09:46

When this happened to me I dyed it again in the same colour I had used and it took to the highlights the second time.
But I've also had to shave my head after dying disasters so take my advice at your peril Grin

Great! Thank you for the advice! My sis suggested ketchup… I’ll give it a go first.

But yeah, I’ve still got some gloss left soo I’ll try going over it again thanks

I don’t fancy shaving it, I have a funny

Okay, so! The Josh Wood gloss washed out!!! It turns out it’s more temporary than semi permanent!!

I’ve attached pics… it’s so so green!!! My 8yr old loves it. I do not!

I can’t go to work like this on Monday and the earliest hair app I can get is Thurs.

I was thinking of getting some directions or manic panic in a proper red red. What do you think?!

Thanks!

I wouldn't put anything else on that. Try ringing round other salons to see if you can get an appointment sooner?

CharacterForming · 18/02/2022 08:31

Oh shit that is very green. Yes I'd ring around other salons. At a pinch put a dark brown semi-permanent on but that might still look iffy.

Wiennetta · 18/02/2022 08:34

It looks more green in your second set of pics - when were both taken/why do they look so different?

To counter green you’ll need warm/red colours. I’d say wait to go to a hairdresser but if you’re really desperate/don’t mind a risk, I’d try covering it with a darker warm brown.

Macademiamum · 18/02/2022 08:35

It needs colour correction work. I would go to a professional and use professional products. I would not risk another box dye

The second picture was the next day after a hair wash.
Wiennetta · 18/02/2022 08:56

Ah I’m with it now - just reread and saw that’s after the temp colour washed out, thanks @CharacterForming.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 18/02/2022 09:03

You really need a hairdresser.

If that isn't possible then you need to go with colour wheel theory which is that to neutralise a colour you use one on the exact opposite side of the colour wheel. Red is your best bet, but be aware that it's unlikely the end result will be red, more likely to go brownish with some tints.

Mojitomogul · 18/02/2022 09:06

Green ash is extremely hard to colour over, you have to remove it with colour remover. Would recommend going to a salon for s gentle cleanse, then semi permanent gloss over the top. Stick to warm colours- do NoT use a colour with a .1 or .2 or .7 after the decimal, they are ash and and will go green. Stick to warm colours with a .3 .4 .6 after decimal (the number on the box) you can get a remover called Colour B4 from superdrug or boots- it's not ideal but will work well- do not be alarmed as your colour will turn orange as it strips out of your hair but the semi permanent (good choice would be 5.3 or 6.3 if you want a warm Chestnut brown) will cover it nicely. Good luck!

ouch321 · 18/02/2022 09:09

So you bleached your hair and then put a chestnut brown semi permanent dye over it and then it went green?

Well semis are designed to wash out. So start by washing your hair with shampoo, Head&Shoulders is said to best at stripping hair, several times over.

Some people say applying crushed vitamin C tablets ground with water to make a paste helps remove colour.

MsWalterMitty · 18/02/2022 09:49

Thanks everyone for your help πŸ˜€

I’m still tempted to put a red red over it…. I just want anything but green!
