Is this dress OK for work?

Here

Planning on wearing it with flat boots and a cardi, to a fairly casual office.

Obviously length/colour/neckline are fine and boring enough, but in terms of how fitted it is? I'm an hourglass 8-10, fairly big hips/bum, not as much boob. It's very flattering (I am glad fitted long sleeve dresses are easy to find again!), but a bit tighter on me than on the model.

I've forgotten what is acceptable and feeling a bit nervous about what to wear next week. Confused

Yep that looks nice and versatile.

girlmom21 · 16/02/2022 19:49

It looks too loose on the model so tighter is better. Will the cardigan be long? If so I think it's fine. I think it'd be fine without a cardigan too.

irregularegular · 16/02/2022 19:49

It would be fine for my work. I'm an academic. I think it would be fine for most.

IsolaPribby · 16/02/2022 19:50

I think it's fine. I would add a jazzy necklace.

BobbinHood · 16/02/2022 19:51

Would be totally fine for my work, with or without cardigan.

MaChienEstUnDick · 16/02/2022 19:52

Dress is fine. I totally dare you to sit like that in your first meeting though Grin

maffhew · 16/02/2022 19:53

It's fine but it says it has raw edges, I suspect it would look a little cheap.

milkysmum · 16/02/2022 19:54

Only thing I would say is that if they have the heating on you could be boiling in it!
It's a lovely dress though, I'd just get too hot.

squishmycherry · 16/02/2022 22:05

Yes I'd wear it to the office 🙂 it's absolutely fine.

HorrocksToThem · 16/02/2022 22:09

Yes it's fine. I wouldn't sit with your legs like that though!

LillithTheLynx · 16/02/2022 22:12

Thanks all! I'll restrain myself from stretching across the flexible working space Grin

You might look like a solid block of black if you wear it with flat black boots. It’s hard to wear a cardigan in a contrasting colour over a black dress and look groomed.

I was thinking oxblood boots and maybe a darkish beige cardi? I don't think I've ever looked groomed in my life Grin

How about a photo of you in it, you can give yourself a green/orange face or chop your head off if you want to (less messy to just do it on the photo obviously)!!

Haus1234 · 16/02/2022 23:01

Would be absolutely fine in my office!

oncemoreunto · 16/02/2022 23:09

It looks absolutely fine, the teenage sulky pout maybe not so much. 🙄

Hairyfriend · 16/02/2022 23:10

If you are wearing it tighter than the model, with fairly big hips/bum I'd check how obvious underwear is through the stretched fabric and/or cellulite. Some materials when stretched open the weave of the fabric and can really become see through! Underwear matching your own skin colour or wearing a slip is best to hide this though.

feelsobadfeltsogood · 16/02/2022 23:16

The only thing I would say is H&M is awful quality and the dress could be a
Bit thin in the flesh and not wash well

I've only ever bought 2 things and returned them both as they were cheap and nasty I wouldn't buy from them again

blueshoes · 16/02/2022 23:21

Yes.

How you going to deal with the bare legs. Are your boots taller? Will you wear tights? If so, I imagine they will be black so as wombat says you will be a solid black. I agree to add colour in the form of a contrasting cardigan or an interesting necklace.

wingscrow · 16/02/2022 23:33

It looks really baggy and ill-fitting...The type of cheap fabric that will lose its shape after you wash it once.

I would look for a similar dress if you like that style but from another shop.

That's my experience of h&m if you buy cheap crap it looks crap I'd rather have fewer nicer things than a wardrobe full of stuff that's poor quality
