Skin blemish won't heal

Sorry for the title. I wasn't sure how to phrase it!

I have always struggled with my skin. Not lots of spots but really stubborn spots linked to my hormones which took weeks to go away.

As I have got older, I have found a routine that works for me, but every so often (like now) I get a spot which dries up but leaves a patch of dry skin or a small scab. I am currently on week six of a small patch of dry skin/colourless scab on my face. There is no spot left it in and it doesn't hurt, but it won't heal either. Leaving it alone or taking the skin of makes no difference either. It just stays where it is! Because it is flaky it isn't easy to cover with concealer so I am quite aware of it.

Any suggestions on what I can do to get rid of it, other than peel off my entire skin?

Thanks

As you get older your skin doesnt heal up well so you take longer to heal.

I'm on antibiotics again for my acne again and will probably be going on roaccutane again this year when they can fit me in at the hosp. I've still got a scar from 4 years ago from cystic spot zero as I called him.

Savlon gel. Tesco sell it

Avidreader12 · 16/02/2022 19:50

Try bathing the area twice a day in a weak salt water solution.

You really should get any ‘non-healing’ lesion on your skin checked by a doctor to rule out any serious causes. Chances are it’s not serious, but better safe than sorry.

Familyguyfan · 16/02/2022 21:01

Thanks all. I have tried traditional savlon but will try the other ideas. If it doesn't improve I will be forced to go to the doctors, it just seems so silly to go when they are so busy with something so small!

The Savlon gel in on another level of healing! Good luck!

CorsicaDreaming · 16/02/2022 21:19

@Familyguyfan - have you tried Bio Oil? V good for this kind of thing imo

But I'd agree with PP to get it checked out by a gp if it's not healing for that long.

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 16/02/2022 21:26

I was going to say get it checked by a Dr too. My first thought was that it might be actinic keratosis or even Bowens disease. Probably not but worth checking I'd say

Familyguyfan · 16/02/2022 21:42

Honestly, this happens fairly often and has done for quite a few years. Not all the time, but I do get spots at least 2 or 3 times a year that do this. They are stubborn, don't come to anything and then fade to small scabs or dry skin before eventually disappearing. Nothing suspect so far, just really annoying.

Anything that doesn't heal could be a basil cell carcinoma, my mum had one - would definitely get that checked out. They don't usually spread so it's just a case of cutting it off

I’ve got one I’ve had for a few years, mine is Keratosis due to sun damage. Told to leave it alone and not scratch! I’ve had a BCC elsewhere, so the dermatologist has had a look at it while tackling that one.

If it’s a small spot you could put some Clinique spot gel on it. It forms a dry film which protects the spot and then it’s really easy to put concealer over the top.
