Which facial moisturiser for early 40s available that's on the high street?

I need a new facial moisturiser. I'm 42 with lines around my eyes and forehead, rest of my face isn't too bad. Ideally with SPF & a very subtle (or no) scent.

I used to use Nivea Q10 Engery (with vit C) but they changed it and I reacted badly.

Loved the feel, smell & results of Olay Total Effects SPF 15 but it left terrible pilling.

Currently using Olay Firm & Lift. Unfortunately it's so perfumed that it's aggrivating my eyes. Had the same reaction with Superdrug's B. Radiant day cream.

Are there any I should consider from Olay, Garnier, L'Oreal, No.7 or other similar type brands?

Thanks in advance.

I like L'Oréal revitalift

No 7 is good for sensitive skin. www.beautybible.com/day-moisturiser-spf-2021.
Lacura (Aldi) might be worth a try. Suits my skin, although not very sensitive, and gets some great comments on Style and Beauty - SPF30, slight perfume - cheap enough to test!

I use Olay sensitive with SPF 15. It's one of the cheaper Olay moisturisers and is the only thing I can tolerate anywhere near my eyes.

BigFatBloomers · 14/02/2022 16:17

I actually rate Superdrug's own brand Vitamin E moisturiser with SPF 15 which, again, is definitely cheap enough to try.

I use The Inky List and highly recommend it. First I just got their Salicyidc Cleanser and when I realised it was better than ANYTHING I had tried before, I went back to the recipe builder on their website. You can give them details of your skin and they tailor a skin care regime to suit. It wasn't even that expensive considering how much you get and some of the products last ages. My skin is so much better since switching over.

isthismylifenow · 14/02/2022 16:46

I am using Neutrogena now. The hydra boost range. I can't see any difference in my skin from when I changed from Clarins. Now I wished I changed ages ago.

Redwinestillfine · 14/02/2022 16:53

Any of these non toxic? On the look out for similar.

LizzieMacQueen · 14/02/2022 16:54

I like Clarins. This one which has SPF 15. It's a pump so easy to use. 15% off at John Lewis right now.

cerave daily moisturiser spf 25. On drier days- lash on some serum underneath - maybe the ordinary buffet

Gonnagetgoing · 14/02/2022 17:02

For me - I don't use anything different - just add retinol and vit c serum etc.

So its Primark moisturiser with SPF 40/50 on top.

My mum swears by Age Perfect Golden Age and/or Revitalift - both the night and day versions and she swaps between the two depending on what's on offer, she's 81 though. If I stay with her I borrow them and they're good but prefer Revitalift for feeling on skin.

@LizzieMacQueen - you should be using at minimum SPF40 plus and same to @empties, in my 20s to mid 30s I used Clinique SPF25 but swapped to higher spf in mid 30s.
Repetitivebeats · 14/02/2022 17:04

I really like this M&S Pure Day Cream It's lovely and rich but sinks in well. It does have Spf 15 but that does naff all so I used a Spf 50 on top too.

@isthismylifenow - there isn't much difference. My DGM used Ponds for years and had very smooth unwrinkled skin.

I have gone through periods of using more expensive moisturiser but soon stop as waste of money. Got given a freebie of Rodial and CDLM and not much difference to cheaper but did feel nice.

@Milkmilkmilk42 - my mum loves Revitalift.

It's not high street but Facetheory is really good and incredibly gentle/non-allergenic for sensitive skin. Would highly recommend.

From the high street I've always got on well with Garnier products and am allergic to tons of stuff. They are very reasonably priced.

For a ££ option, Nuxe stuff is available in M&S beauty departments and is wonderful.

sofakingcool · 14/02/2022 17:07

I like the Elemis superfood moisturiser during the day, and an Olay serum 7 something at night

@mrssmiling - I tried the Lacura recently and was disappointed that it pilled on my skin. Sad

@RaoulDufysCat - Nuxe is lovely - really nice feeling - I sometimes get it when it's discounted at a local chemist which sells posh brands.
Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 14/02/2022 17:09

I use an Honest Company one from Boots and am very pleased with it, ordered a few now which is unusual for me. Sensitive, combination, 40s skin. Its this one: www.boots.com/beauty/skincare/skincare-all-skincare/honest-beauty-deep-hydration-face-cream-10270958

Cherryblossoms85 · 14/02/2022 17:09

I like all the No7 stuff, I'm 44. Serum is particularly nice. Just avoid the one with the "brightening" particles as it's too thick and doesn't blend well.

RaoulDufysCat · 15/02/2022 09:00

@Gonnagetgoing

Hello fellow Nuxe lover. It's so lovely, isn't it? I also think it smells the best of any skincare I have tried.

delightly · 15/02/2022 09:05

I use Revitalift day cream and Nivea Q10 at night but I am not getting on with the Nivea so I'm going to switch to the Revitalift night cream. I also use retinol and vit c serums.

LiveFromNewYork · 15/02/2022 09:08

Assume you mean for daytime as you mention SPF. I’d actually say Cerave PM, lovely light texture. Available in Boots and Superdrug.

You need a separate SPF 50 but that’s the case with nearly all day moisturisers.

Bagelsandbrie · 15/02/2022 09:31

I actually love the q10 Aldi moisturisers. They’re about £3 a pot and I prefer that over any of the L’Oréal revitalift stuff I’ve got recently. They’re much more moisturising and don’t seem to irritate my skin as much. I’m 41.

@RaoulDufysCat - it is nice the Nuxe. I don't use it every day partly due to the expense but would if it were more easily available.

French friend of mine who lives in London uses Caudalie and her skin looks fantastic and she's had issues with acne with copper coil!
