Can any hairdressers help me please?

My friend is a hairdresser but only just returned to work following maternity leave. I've asked her a couple of times if she's opening back up to do mobile but she doesn't reply to this, but responds to other general messages.

Anyway she always did an amazing job on my hair but I can't ask her again, I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what I need to buy to do it at home please? My hairs naturally mousy blond/brown. First she would bleach it, and then apply a toner to give a platinum silvery colour. I think it was a mix of a couple wella toners but not sure,

Unfortunately I don't have the money or childcare available to be able to visit a salon, any recommendations on what products I need please?

Thank you

Do you have someone that could help you? That’s the only way to bleach your hair at home without it being a total disaster, even then it can be a challenge. You’ll need to make sure the bleach doesn’t overlap the already bleached part of your hair otherwise it will break off. Also making sure that you work extremely quickly so that the entire head develops at the same time, otherwise you’ll have white roots at the bottom and orange roots on top.

You’ll need bleach, developer, a toner and cling film to put over the hair as it develops. Preferably also a bonding treatment like olaplex if you’re bleaching at home.

Sorry if that sounds really negative above, I’m speaking from experience sadly.

During lockdown I just gave up and coloured my hair a darker colour because it was so difficult to do myself at home. However it can be done and I wish you the best of luck.

@Wavypurple thanks for your reply

Yes I've got another friend who colours her own hair who she will do it for me. It's just more the actual products, I don't know what l need and more specifically the toner.

I don't know why the girl who used to do it won't just tell me what products to buy, if she's not willing to do it herself, but that's a different issue 😂

Yes sorry hope the above didn’t come across as patronising I wasn’t sure if you were completely new to the process!

There are lots of good UK YouTube videos on products. I think the general rule of thumb is not to go above 20 volume when bleaching at home.

I used to bleach my daughters hair… it’s not easy when doing roots as you risk a banding effect. Research how to avoid it, I can’t remember now how we avoided it after getting banding. But it doesn’t look great!

Oh not at all @Wavypurple
I've had my fair share of disasters many years ago. I once did diy highlights with the hi light cap, pulled the cap off and it pulled my hair out too!!!

Always went to the hairdressers and I became good friends with my hairdresser, she then came to my house for years to do my hair. But now just doesn't acknowledge it when I ask anything related to hair.

I'll have a look on YouTube. Just desperate for my hair done. I feel abit low about myself at the minute and hate my hair. Thanks for your advice 😊

Thank you didn't think of this. Ah there's a lot to look into!

Maybe I'll try and go balayage but again I've seen how bad these can look if they're not done well
