Can anyone recommend the Phillips Lumea IPL?

Have just read up about the Phillips Lumea IPL and debating if it’s a worthwhile investment?
Has anyone purchased and received decent results?
It it a good alternative or would I be better off booking sessions and paying for it locally?

I’m not overly hairy just 3 children down the line it would be quite nice to strike off the worry of remembering to shave my Pitt’s and tidy up my bikini line before swimming!

I have one, just done my second treatment. I didn't need to shave my legs at all between treatment 1 and 2 (2 week interval) and only shaved before treatment 2 because you have to. I have very pale skin and darkish hair so apparently the ideal combo laser wise but it seems worth it to me.

I didn't do my armpits initially because I was too scared, but I did them also alongside treatment 2 of my legs, and it's only been 2 days but there is much less stubble than there ordinarily would be.

I would say that you have to be quite organised about when you do it, because if you do a treatment outside of a 3 day window of the scheduled day you have to restart the protocol from the beginning. I have actually had mine for over a year, but gave up on it for ages because I wasn't organised enough and kept missing the date. I have all the dates set in my phone now.

I think the protocol is every 2 weeks for the first 4 treatments, with a 3 day window if you miss the exact date, and then every month for the next 6 treatments with a 4 day window. I'm not sure what happens after that, if it's just gone for good. My booklet doesn't say.

I’ve got a small version and it’s rubbish.

Fizzgigg · 13/02/2022 10:01

I love mine. I'm very pale with a lot of very dark hair. I used to have to change legs and under arms daily in summer. I note haven't shaved my legs in about 8 months and don't need to

Canaloha · 13/02/2022 10:05

Yes I have one and it's been great. I was a bit scared before using it to be honest, but I made sure to read the instructions thoroughly and it was fine. I used it on my legs to start with and once I gained confidence using it have done my upper lip (with the separate attachment). It is quite time consuming but of course once it's been done you save time down the line by not having to wax or shave. I bought it in the sale so it was a lot cheaper than going for a set of sessions, but if you can afford the sessions I'd be tempted just for laziness/ease.

Canaloha · 13/02/2022 10:05

It does work better with certain types of hair though.

CheeseMuffin · 13/02/2022 13:33

Absolutely yes. I bought one 3 years ago and it's changed my life. My only regret is that I didn't get one sooner and spare myself years of waxing and plucking.

CheeseMuffin · 13/02/2022 13:35

Should probably add that it needs contrast so if you have fair hair or very dark skill then it won't work. I found it particularly effective on my bikini line where the individual hairs were thick and dark.

CheeseMuffin · 13/02/2022 13:36

That should be very dark skin

megletthesecond · 13/02/2022 13:44

I'm a year in and it's finally working.
It's been miserably itchy at times and I've had to use it every week to blitz it, the fortnightly and monthly schedule didn't work for me. But I got there. I shaved 10 days ago and not too many have grown so I'll zap again this evening.
I'd waxed for 30 years before zapping them.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 13/02/2022 14:57

It's amazing. I think Philips do a money back guarantee if it doesn't work for you.

glassesblob · 13/02/2022 15:01

Yes it's brilliant. I am fair with dark hair so the perfect candidate for it. Get a very hairy face (to the point where I have to shave it every day or pluck out 20-30 hairs every morning) and they totally went within two treatments!

Legs responded really well. It took about 3 treatments for results to be noticeable but it's been great. Even when I've forgotten to treat for months over winter, my legs aren't anywhere near as dark and hairy as they used to be.

Never had much of a result with my underarms but going to persevere.

TheWorldKickedBack · 13/02/2022 15:06

The first 2 uses I didn't see much of a difference but I had no reaction to it. On the third session I ended up with loads of very very itchy red spots around my ankles and part way up my legs (like loads of gnat bites). I assumed it was because I stupidly did it while I had COVID and my skin was probably sensitive. I let them heal for 2 weeks and tried it again on a slightly lower setting. Again I got the same thing but slightly worse. My armpits though have had no reaction. It's a shame because it was just starting to make a big difference. I'm not sure whether to leave it a bit longer and try on a lower setting.

roses2 · 13/02/2022 15:42

Love mine. I had so many professional laser treatments on my chin but the hairs kept coming back. This saved me a fortune! It's time consuming but works.

LittleWins · 13/02/2022 15:58

I love mine! Used to have to shave daily so worth the price. I’m now on topups every month or so.

I’m very pale with dark hair btw.

Desmondo2021 · 13/02/2022 16:03

It's literally changed my life. Search for my previous thread from years ago. Honestly, life-changing!

megletthesecond · 13/02/2022 16:07

theworld After I got the spots I dropped the setting down further and only zapped a few areas. I also use a mix of E45, hydrocortisone cream and eurax anti-itch cream. It helped stop the itching and spots. I also put damp flannels in my freezer and would lay them on my legs. It got me through the awful early weeks.

52andblue · 13/02/2022 16:10

Do Phillips genuinely offer a money back guarantee??

lesgalettes · 13/02/2022 16:25

I've got one that I use for my bikini line, but even though I have very pale skin and dark hair it doesn't seem to have worked that well. I'm still persevering 18 months on.....

Uptoongirl · 13/02/2022 16:28

It has worked incredibly well on my legs and bikini line. Not so much on my armpits, it has reduced the hair but nothing like the other areas, probably because my armpits are a few shades darker than the rest of my body. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone without pale skin / dark hair.

TheWorldKickedBack · 13/02/2022 17:42

megletthesecond thank you, I will persevere with it on a lower setting and get the iced flannels ready!

CinnamonJellyBeans · 13/02/2022 18:04

Just had a look. Philips sell the Prestige model for £459, or you can pay £462 in 12 monthly installments and cancel anytime. So no longer money back, but nonetheless, that seems reasonable.

CheeseMuffin · 13/02/2022 18:11

It's worth waiting until Boots has one of their triple point weekends as you'll get quite a lot for a Lumea.
