My skin suddenly feels 'rough'

I am in my late thirties. I've always had great skin, bar a span of adult acne in my late twenties. It's always been quite flawless

Just in the last year or so, it doesn't feel as smooth as it used to.

I use nothing but Nivea, and cleanse with coconut oil and a soft flannel.

I've been trying different eye creams but none have been anything worth continuing.

I've got some retin A, but I am really not sure how to use it! Blush .

I've seen a lot of people recommend 'skin and me' would that be useful for me do we think?

Has anyone had this issue and can recommend me any particular routine or product?

Thank you! :)

I'd say perhaps you just need to exfoliate? Not using anything rough but an acid, eg Pixi Glow or Aloha H Liquid Gold - am sure there are plenty of others

Rough, dry skin can be a symptom of other conditions such as hypothyroid.

This is good advice. I have used both these and they are very good.

I also use a skin peel from the Ordinary occasionally and can highly recommend it. I have sensitive skin so I only left it on for a few minutes the fist couple of times I used it and had no problems.

I was going to say it was because it's the end of winter, but if you get it all year, maybe not that.

Lickinglemonsinloughborough · 12/02/2022 19:49

Sorry if this is obvious but do you drink enough water?

Landlordworries · 12/02/2022 21:05

Thank you everyone, I am going to look into the acid thing definitely!

I drink LOADS of water but I also drink wine 2-3 nights a week, wonder if It's that? Not excessively.

I eat quite healthily too, I have been wondering though, I've been low carbing for the last few months. I wonder if this is a side-effect.

When my skin feels rough I use lactic acid from the ordinary and it does seem to sort it. I should be more consistent really.

I have that, but it doesn't seem to work for me. I probably need something stronger.

What are you eating on the low carb diet? Did the skin roughness coincide with that change?
