Roaccutane in your 40s

I’ve suffered on and off with acne for most of my life, In my early 20s I had two rounds of roaccutane lasting 4 months each which made a huge difference to my skin for probably the next ten years. I’m now in my 40s and my skin keeps flaring up with sore cystic spots on my face, back and chest, so I have an appointment later today with a private dermatologist to see what options are available to me and whether it would be worth having another course of roaccutane now.
Just wondering if anyone had any experience and indication of cost privately. I had a private medical care when I had the treatment previous day but I work for myself now so don’t and will be self funding.
Thank you

Could you not get this through the NHS?

I took a course a couple of years ago in my early 40s (my 4th course over a period of 20 years!) I did go to see a private derm as I was desperate to sort my skin out again, but he suggested I took antibiotics for 3 months whilst I waited for my NHS appt to come through.

When I got to see the NHS derm they were really supportive and said plenty of women in their 40s still need Roaccutane. I will go back again if I need to!

@RavenT Thank you got your response, my GP has said there’s a 12 month wait for dermatology hence going private.

Oh my goodness that is awful. I think mine was 4 months all in, but I had to push for it. And the antibiotics did keep my skin calmer during the time, but they didn't get rid of it.
I would be interested to hear how you get on then, and the cost also. I think the consultation I had with the Derm (no meds) was about £80.

I just had the consultation and he has prescribed a six week course of Roaccutane at a high dose then review (I have PCOS) so we might go down the spironolactone route as well. The initial consultation was £150 and I’m waiting for the bill for the prescription…..
