43 years old and in a new job in an IT role. Very casual wear, but haven't got a clue what to wear or where to buy stuff from
Can anybody help? With photos please? Or links?

I don't want to splash out but want to be comfortable and casual! I'm a size 10/12

Depends on the dress code but I'd go for smart casual e.g.ankle boots/flats with opaque tights, skirt and jumper/dress, or trousers+top/jumper.
If more casual smart jeans (no rips), coloured jeans (black probably) + shirt/jumper

Usual shops - Zara, H&M, DP, JL, M&S, Arket, Jigsaw, Cos, etc

Forgot Uniqlo. Last time I was office based some men were in jeans, some in shirt and trousers, women mainly in dresses.

Do you have some back trousers or jeans you could wear with a jumper? I'd try to wear something already in your wardrobe for a few days before you spend any money, to see what everyone else is wearing.

its very casual. Other women wear scruffy jeans , t shirt and cardi. I dont want to go down that route

Wear what you like @User8721643839. I do. Most places I've worked on had differently-attired people. Some look very scruffy and some like they've stepped out of a boden ad

I usually go for a plain long-sleeve top and jeans i it's casual.
Smart casual - I'll often wear a dress or pinafore or mini skirt with solovair dealer boots. Midi dresses are easy to wear but I only have one and not worn it for work yet

JamSandwich0 · 08/02/2022 20:13

I work in IT and we usually interview people in hoodies so the bar is pretty low 🤣

Jeans, top and a blazer should suffice

ErrolTheDragon · 08/02/2022 20:22

If you're likely to be guddling around with hardware, under desks etc then probably trousers.

Mundra · 08/02/2022 20:28

Do you not have clothes already? Save your money! As jamsandwich says, IT is so casual, it's normal to wear t-shirt and jeans to interview and to work.

I work in IT. If I'm in the office I usually wear jeans, trendy trainers and a top or a jumper. Or a bit smarter; ankle boots, black opaques, mini skirt and black roll neck. No one really wears anything smarter than that.

SausageRoll2020 · 08/02/2022 21:46

Literally anything you want, go for something you'll feel comfortable and confident in, it really doesn't matter what that is.

Jeans, sweatshirt and trainers? Fine
Shirt dress with heeled boots? Fine
(I work in tech and have worn both of the above to the office this week as they suited my mood each day)

If you wear a suit you'll look a bit out of place and might get jokingly asked what time you're due at court anything else and in the nicest way possible, no one will bat an eyelid.

P.s. congrats on the new job!

BestIsWest · 08/02/2022 21:47

I work in IT. I wear either jeans, nice trainers and a jumper or jersey dress (White Stuff, Seasalt sort of thing), opaques and boots.

tanktopsruleok · 08/02/2022 22:20

I'm in IT and most people I work with are borderline scruffy! I like to dress very smart, much smarter than management but it's not a power move, I just feel good dressing like this and more confident

BestIsWest · 09/02/2022 11:01

It might help to know what the role is. Agile delivery managers and BAs for example tend to dress smarter than developers. The infrastructure teams are very scruffy. The people who crawl under desks wear jeans and a corporate polo shirt or hoody where I work. Having said that we’re all working from home these days so it might have all changed over the last two years.

Lots of ideas thank you! I wear a uniform now so completely have no idea for IT. But it is a help desk plus more role
