I am a 16 on the bottom and a 18 on the top and am having lunch with my dp for his 40th in a very fancy restaurant I want to look gorgeous and really really dont have anything to wear - stopped going out at all about 3 years ago. I have to work in the office in the morning but meeting him for lunch - was thinking of a nice black suit dresed up with some kind of silky blouse - only got a week to get it together and dont know where to start looking. Not worried about price too much (not thousands though!!) just want to make him proud - any suggestions. I work in Central London - normal problem I find is that all stylish stuff only goes up to a size 14. I am 45 if this helps so no mutton dressed as lamb suggestions please ????

Lulu, would a black suit not look a bit formal? As you say maybe with a nice top underneath, so that way you could take the jacket off once you get to the restaurant? Show off your assets!

Monsoon

I agree a black suit may be alittle austere, its a lunch, not an interview. You sound gorgeously curvy, show off the old girls in a v neck top and look fab from the waist up, cos thats the bit he'll be gazing adoringly at. Those tops on the monsoon site loked good.

or maybe Principles, or Wallis?

Also think MOnsoon is a good bet. I thought the Milla top in the above link (the first top on the page) looked gorgeous and would look great with a suit, though even better with a dark skirt and pretty floaty/shimmery cardi on top. (agree a black suit sounds bit strict/work-like).
Perhaps a fitted skirt with a slight flare at the hem/fishtail effect might be flattering?

Maybe this sort of skirt

Thanks for your replies everyone (just logged back on. I do think a black suit would be a bit boring workish but just think I would feel a little more confident in black - will try and jazz it up with a nice top though - dont think I could even contemplate a skirt of any kind after Christmas !!!
