Colouring Blonde Hair - Any Home Colourists?

I've had a few disasters at the hairdresser where my hair has just been made blonder and blonder - this is despite my protests that my hair ALWAYS goes yellow.

I went to a new hairdresser a couple of weeks ago and explained I that I wanted a more balayage effect but I still seem to have ended up the same 😭

Although I normally go and have my hair professionally done I'm getting slightly miffed at forking out £100 a pop and still not getting what I want.

I'm thinking I could save myself a fortune and have hair the right colour 😂 is there a dye I can use to go more brown - I'm sure the blonde would start to come through which would end up more of the colour I'm after.

I use various shop bought colours and find that if I choose a dark blonde it looks a bit brown to start with but fades to blonde and doesn't look yellow (which it does if I use a lighter blonde).
E.g. www.superdrug.com/Hair/Hair-Colourants/Permanent-Hair-Dye/Clairol-Nice%27n-Easy-Hair-Dye-7-Dark-Blonde/p/751309#

Thanks - I think you've def got a point there. I always end up too dark so I think a dark blonde might be my first port of call. My thinking at the moment is it couldn't look much worse than it currently does!

I got sick of that too so now just use John Frida lightening spray on the roots at the front/ parting until I get the colour I want.

Don't do this!!!! Your hair will turn to bubblegum next time you bleach/tint it. They are basically Sun-In of old and contain metallic salts. They will wreck your hair. Just don't.

These toning sachets that you shampoo in are really good for toning down brassiness. If you have lighter ends they should give you the effect you may be after and won't break the bank or your hair if they don't.

@CrocodilesCry ooh they look interesting. Thanks - not too scary either I might try one tomorrow.

I use clairol nice and easy. I use no 8

DottyHarmer · 08/02/2022 10:25

I mix up 8 and 9 root touch up together. Comes up very natural medium blondish and is more “random” as opposed to a blanket colour that looks a bit false.

I like Josh wood home hair colour

DarlingCoffee · 08/02/2022 11:02

I came on here to also say Josh Wood - I like his glosses

MotherOfWhippets · 08/02/2022 13:50

@DarlingCoffee I have been looking at Josh Wood - what exactly do the glosses do if not too silly a question?

They are a bit longer than a temporary colour, and wash out after a few washes if I remember. Lovely colour results.

DarlingCoffee · 08/02/2022 14:06

This could be nice for you OP
