Hello - I'm looking for an evening gown ideally satin, bias cut 1930s style with a drop waist.... I love the one Keira Knoghtley wore in Atonebt for example.
Anyone able to give me pointers where to look? I've put 1930s dress in google and no luck at all!!

Etsy would be a good starting point, you might even find something original (although it will be expensive). For 1930s inspired dresses you can check Asos (sth like that www.asos.com/asos-design/asos-design-cami-embellished-maxi-dress-in-gold-and-black/prd/14844055?clr=black&colourWayId=16648348&SearchQuery=asos+cami+embellished) or more similar to Keira's dress (www.asos.com/asos-edition/asos-edition-satin-square-neck-maxi-dress-with-side-split-in-forest-green/prd/200334544?ctaref=we+recommend+grid_0&featureref1=we+recommend+pers)

The ghost at m and s range has lots of 1930s styles

gingerhills · 07/02/2022 16:03

This Ghostm one is a bit similar but less fussy around the hips

I love the Asos tea dress a PP suggested.

Thank you everyone ! So much food for thought. I am particularly keen on the actual replica Atonement dress linked by @PostThenGhost and might have to save my pennies and splash out on that. Atonement is a very special movie to me, and it would be amazing to have replica of THAT dress in my wardrobe.
I have already seen the Ghost dresses and to be honest they were the closest that I could find when googling, and very nice. But it's that say around the drop waistline thing that's going on with the Atonement dress that I'm quite sold on, and the Ghost dresses are a bit plain in comparison, although lovely (and cheaper).

PS I do like the first dress linked by @RitaJosephina - perhaps I could buy that too BlushBlushBlush

I think I need to tone up my upper arms before going out in any of these dresses TBH. And it's for a 30s themed event in March, so could be cold. I can't imagine anything to wear over the top that wouldn't ruin the dress though. Just have to hope central heating is working Grin

I wish there was an edit button!

But it's that say around the drop waistline thing should have read that sash around the drop waistline......

This has a rather thirties look.

Might work with Thirties-style jewellery?

Nancy Mac might be worth a look - not sure if the dresses are quite what you are looking for, although the velvets including jumpsuits are stunning. They have some lovely wraps and jackets too…ideal for evening.

The Ghost dresses are really lovely. I have two, one for evening posh dos and one for when I got married. Plain colours but really beautiful to wear. No need to dry clean either!

RainCloude · 08/02/2022 09:03

I might go for a Ghost dress and jewellery.
I can save up for the atonement replica for later and prance around the house in it. Shame I don't have a library..

This keeps appearing on my Facebook feed, I think it’s quite similar to the atonement dress (which is dress perfection!) www.wolfandbadger.com/uk/satin-long-dress-emerald/

LaBellina · 08/02/2022 14:22

Check Museum Selection’s nightwear selection, they have loads of old fashioned style stuff.

LaBellina · 08/02/2022 14:23

My apologies I just saw you’re not looking for a night gown Blush

RainCloude · 08/02/2022 20:23

@Mademoiselle14 yes that keeps popping up on my Insta! Although it's lovely, the waistline is too high - I just don't suit that as I dont have much of a waist and much prefer a drop waistline! But I bet that dress would look great on someone with more curves than me.

Nancy Mac might be worth a look. Not really 30s but the clothes have a lovely vintage feel.

rbe78 · 15/02/2022 21:35

@RainCloude

A fur cape/stole would be the ideal, and period-appropriate, cover up. Vintage if you don't mind real (personally I'm ok with fur if it's vintage, in the same way I wear diamonds only if they're antique), but faux if not.

Vintage:
One
Two
Three

Faux:

This is the nearest (and dearest) other than the original from that designer.
