What’s Uniqlo like?

….I mean what’s the quality like - I have no experience of the brand ( not in UK) and have seen it mentioned on here quite a bit.

Quality is good but sizing can be bewildering

TollgateDebs · 07/02/2022 12:58

Agree that generally quality is good, but you really need to check the reviews and the actual measurements of the item (it is given) before you buy! Wash well too.

Quality is good for the price, sizes are pretty random . Which is frustrating if you don’t have a store nearby so have to shop online as they charge for returns.

I have a lot of Uniqlo stuff. It's decent quality, washes well and the sales are great. I haven't found the sizes to be too odd - I am a 12 and their medium seems fine in most items. The jeans are usually done by waist and leg size in inches anyway. They do point out on the website if the sizes change; a recent collaboration stated that the clothes ran large.
I really like their huge colour palette, which means I can buy black and not navy as the 'dark' colour. I also like the lack of frills, ruffles and logos on the stuff.

Another fan of their plain teeshirts here, especially the Uniqlo U crew necks, I have some that are several years old and still look nice. I also have a couple of linen shirts from the Ines de la Fressnage collabs that have more than earned their keep, that collection can be hit an miss though e.g I find the dresses have HUGE armholes if sleeveless and can have way too much fabric at the waist.

For returns - use Paypal to pay and make sure you are signed up for their free returns thing, then it's no problem you have to pay to send back.

Oh and I am 1m76, size 14 in M&S and wear a Uniqlo L in the teeshirts but an XL in their Heattech line.

Evanesco · 07/02/2022 13:48

A lot of people rave about Uniqlo but I found the few bits I have really hit and miss.

I went on holiday a couple of years ago so bought abroad rather than in the UK but I got a couple of normal t shirts which were pretty naff as they were so thin (they were individually packed in plastic so I couldn't see what the quality was like in the shop before I bought) and then I also got a nicer going out top which is nice thick material and looks more expensive than it was.

Also as this was abroad and not in the UK I don't know if the sizing is the same but the sizes were all over the place- I had to get much much bigger sizes than what I wear in the UK usually.

Actually very good for the price, I have quite a lot of tops from the Heat Tech range for winter thermals and they are great.

They are far from ethical though and there were some links to Uyghur forced labour so I won't buy from them any longer.

Xyzzzzz · 07/02/2022 16:30

Got my coat from there and love it. It’s really warm.

Wetcappuccino · 07/02/2022 16:50

I bought a couple of tshirts from there in the past and did not like the cut. I have since heard they are not great on workers rights and owe Indonesian garment workers $5m severance pay.

violetbunny · 07/02/2022 17:39

I really like their Airism range. Great when travelling in hot climates, it's very breathable, dries quickly and doesn't wrinkle.

Clymene · 07/02/2022 17:42

I love their clothes. They're good quality, wash well and they do some interesting collaborations. I'm sorry to hear they don't treat workers well though.

WhereAreWeNow · 07/02/2022 18:57

The good things:
Heattech thermals
Merino jumpers
Colours
Seamless down puffers
Cashmere beanies

Bad things:
Unethical labour practices
Really rubbish returns policy
Some of it can look a bit frumpy and shapeless.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 07/02/2022 19:16

Love UNIQLO for basics. I don't trust the online size guide thingy though - it keeps insisting I'm a Medium, but every time I've ordered in that it's been massive. I'm an 8-10 in most shops and need a small, sometimes x-small.

Their Heattech stuff is brilliant, as their trousers and the lightweight down jackets (very warm but very weight and fold away to nothing).
